I really like Intuitive Eating too, though the only other book I've read is Healthy at Every Weight. I've read Intuitive Eating several times, and it makes a whole lot of sense to me, and has been very inspiring, and has given me several very very helpful things to hang onto--things that I think about during the course of the day....

Namely,

Am I hungry?

If yes, then what do I feel like eating.

If no, then what am I feeling? What do I really need?

And,

If you don't love it, don't eat it, and if you love it, savor it.

And just the whole idea of honoring your hunger and feeling your fullness, and really savoring the pleasures of eating, because it IS a pleasure.

I'm not saying that I've gotten any RESULTS from any of this, except that this week after I finally decided that I needed to take positive steps towards (re)establishing a healthy relationship with food that I've probably eaten less than I have any time in the past several years, felt great, and experienced much satisfaction with eating, and I do love cooking and eating, so that's a good thing. Dieting in previous years really made me obsessed with food, and I started doing binge eating which I'd never done before.....

Thanks to all who replied about their favorite IE book. Now the question is: how long have you been reading, and how would you say these books helped you? TaiTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Sunday, August 14, 2011 2:04 AMSubject: Re: books

Hi,

My favorite book is Intuitive Eating. I just like the way it's laid out. I like the step by step approach. I haven't read a lot of IE books, but I did also like Overcoming Overeating.

Sara,I found Wasink's book really enlightening. It is helpful to understand how everyone eats more than they realize under certain conditions. By making conditions more conducive to eating mindfully, it makes the process easier.CaroleTo: "IntuitiveEating_Support "

It was the most comprehensive for me, although I also found Wasink's "Mindless Eating" to be very helpful too in recognizing the times I zone out when eating.Sara

I thought the IE book was the best " how to " guide, but my favorite for reading & being inspired was Geneen Roth's " women, food, and god. "

Best,

I haven't read Women, Food, and God yet, but I did read all the books Geneen Roth had out about 6-8 years ago, and I gained weight trying to follow her ideas, and then there were deaths in my family and I drifted away from IE for quite awhile. This time around, I've read more, particularly Overcoming Overeating, and I seem to be in a better position. I'm not gaining weight, and this discussion has brought up for me the question of why not, because I am definitely eating a lot of fun food. I think the first difference is this time around if what I want is candy, then I eat candy, and I don't try to eat candy for what I want and something else for the nutrition of it. In Diets Dont Work Schwartz (?) says some naturally thin folk eat fast and some eat slow, and some eat healthy and some

eat junk. That was freeing for me to read and apply.

I think different books appeal to different folks, and even at different times in our journeys. I must admit that I found Women, Food, and God to be much better than her earlier books. But what worked for me what necessarily work for you!
