Guest guest
Steve, has Janene been tested by a certified parasitology lab. There should be one in Australia. But if you have trouble finding one, you may contact the PCI which is the one my MD uses. Enclosed is their URL. I was very surprised that I tested positive for one. The test cost US$80. It was a simple matter of using the test kit they send. Over night shipment of the samples was not required. Parasitology Center Inc. Home Page http://www.parasitetesting.com/ REGARDS, ray .. Guest guest
I', curious which parasite do they say you have. I believe parasites can be a large factor in our disease and they are often overlooked. Be well. kathy rheumatic RE:Grainfields Survey > Steve, has Janene been tested by a certified parasitology lab. Guest guest
Hi Ray, >Steve, has Janene been tested by a certified parasitology lab. Janene is the technical manager of a lab which runs parasitology testing in our state - one of her special interests is parasitology (she loves showing us awful photos . She says the problem is each potential parasite needs to be tested for individually, so exhausting the possibilities is fairly daunting. I had a look at the site you mentioned and she has tested herself for many of the species listed. Does this lab test for the whole list from one sample? The history of Janene's diarrhea and weight loss has been a problem. She has done well from the systemic scleroderma point of view in general. Although she still has stiffness and her fingers are curled, after five years of the disease she has no evidence of internal damage and a doctor she works with (a scleroderma specialist) says she appears to be stable, which means a great deal with scleroderma. Her blood tests are close to normal, she sleeps and eats well, seems to have plenty of energy and gets on with her life. But the bouts of diarrhea keep on re-occurring and she is so thin that the need to put weight back on is getting crucial. When she stops minocycline, the diarrhea stops, but other antibiotics haven't worked for her and she feels the minocycline definitely has saved her life. So she tried other probiotics and that made the diarrhea worse. It may be that her gut motility has been affected by the scleroderma. Steve and I always act as guinea-pigs for anything we find for Janene (for new people, Steve who posted about the Grainfields is my son and runs rheumatic.org and this group). We have found some very good supplements, but the advantage of the Grainfields products seems to be the pre-digested ingredients and the large range of live probiotics, including saccharomyces boulardii. Janene's diarrhea stopped almost immediately she started taking it and we hope this will continue. If you look at the ingredients, there are some similar products in the US, but they seemed more expensive. The Grainfields powders cost from around $35 - $50 Australian but there is enough to last a couple of months. Several people have mailed me that they are suffering from wasting/loss of weight so this product may be of benefit and we welcome your feedback if you try it. Chris. Guest guest
Hi Dean, >Please send Janene our best. I hope she finds a good combination that >allows her to gain back some weight. I know I have sensitivites to >probiotcs myself...nothing as severe as what Janene experiences, but my >stomach does flips for about an hour after I take them. We hadn't heard of anyone else who reacts that way to probiotics so your message is interesting. >Has Janene talked with a doctor about taking doxycycline? Janene didn't do very well on doxycycline - she's also tried clarithromycin and was on clindamycin IVs for a long time. In general, minocycline has been the best for her as far as the scleroderma goes. The first doctor we found who would prescribe the antibiotic (years ago before the therapy was heard of here) was a really clueless guy who told her 'oh look you don't have ANY gut flora') and didn't do anything about it. So presumably the diarrhea has been a gut dysbiosis problem and the Grainfields seems to have helped the problem so far. Thanks, Chris. Guest guest
Dear & Steve: I thank you and Steve for telling us about Grainfields food products. Their products are excellent and their customer service is surperb. Of their food products, my favorite is Grains & Greens and the B E Wholegrain liquid which is loaded with good bacteria: AGM Foods Pty. Ltd. http://www.agmfoods.com/ The shipping to USA is a bit expensive, but if you select the UPS value box, and fill it up with product, the pro-rated shipping expense is not that bad.(note: 2 value box sizes:10kg-22 lbs. or 25kg-55 lbs Another alternative is to buy from their distributor in Canada, but while the shipping cost is lower, the product cost is much higher: http://www.grainfields.org Grainfields products with their high nutrient and good bacteria content are a perfect addition to the antibiotic protocol. Guest guest
Steve, to answer your question, after using Grainfields for a while I noticed improved digestion, energy, and elimination. If any one knows of a product like it made in north America, I would like to hear about it. In the literature they sent with my first order, they said that vitamin c also destroys good bacteria. As a compromise, I take vitamin C and minocin early in the day, and Grainfields later in the day. They also mentioned that they have been asked to start a prduction facility in the US, but so far nothing has come of it.
