Thanks Katrina.

I'm not sure if it's just this thread Holly, I think it's all of them.

It seems to have stopped (I hope?) I haven't gotten any for a while now even

with sending replies. Ran my AV & MB last night, everything was clean.

Just ran hijackthis & some of the other cleaning programs I have and still

nothing.

Hope whatever it was was fixed and if it was someone from this group's

machine infected, hope you got it cleared up! I really hate malware =(

I'm getting posts as mail and both reading and posting off my iPhone so it does

sound as if someone as a virus that has been sending posts to iTunes support.

Weird.

I'm really horrible - I have a friend that sends pictures and things and I hit

delete then tell her yeah, that was really cute!

But who is it that's infected with the malicious software? Because I have

noticed that my spambox is filled with messages from itunes.

We have " nannyware " installed on our computer that is supposed to find and stop

malware. But it just did its scan for the day and didn't find anything but one

cookie, which it removed.

???? I don't understand this stuff.

Ack! Now I'm getting these apple.com iTunes messages in my e-mail, apparently

one for each post I make, even though I indicated that the messages are " spam "

which should block them!

How annoying! They are not appearing as Group messages at the Group site,

however, so its just our e-mail addresses that appear to be targeted.

Neither of those things is going to stop iTunes support from

sending you automated messages if it gets a message from you. If

you're not getting them, it could be that they're ending up in

the spam mailbox for the e-mail account you use here. Or perhaps

you're not actually checking mail at the address you're using

here? If you read the messages via the web interface rather than

via e-mail, it might be that you're posting " from " an account

you don't regularly look at. It is also possible that some

messages here don't meet the requirements for getting automated

responses.

>Note: automated ITunes e-mail messages are (so far) not

>appearing in the Messages at the Group site for this Group,

>which tends to make me think its your e-mail / your computer

>that has been hacked.

They're unlikely to ever appear there because iTunes isn't

sending messages to this group. It automatically replies to the

address in the from: header of the messages, not the reply-to:

header. That means the messages go to the people who post

messages, not the group as a whole. Someone who has been

involved in this group at some point (although not necessarily

currently) almost certainly has a computer that is infected.

With that one exception, the people getting the messages aren't

getting them because there's anything wrong at their end. This

is going to continue until someone unsubscribes the address that

is generating the automatic replies.

It is also worth noting that as long as this is happening,

whoever reads the messages sent to iTunes support will probably

be able to see what we say. It might be a good idea to watch

what you say until this is resolved if that idea makes you

uncomfortable.

As annoying as this is, it is far better than the possibility of

a crazy nada or fada or one of their flying monkeys causing

trouble by e-mail.

I haven't been getting any messages either, but if it's a virus, since iTunes is

so widely used by so many people, it's quite possible that various members of

this group are getting spam from some malware that has no connection to this

group whatsoever.

Everynow and then I see the same kind of thing happen to groups of friends on

Facebook and Twitter. For awhile there, at least once a week a different Twitter

friend was getting hacked and then they would send out a load of spam to

everyone in their contacts.

Did I miss it, or is there actual proof it's connected to the Yahoo group?

BANG, iTunes support message in my inbox. I apologize for doubting the

But if an iTunes address was subscribed to the list, and was bouncing back an

autoreply, wouldn't that autoreply go in as a post not as a reply email? I don't

get emails from any other person in the group when they post--I have my settings

on the Daily Digest mode, which means once or twice a day I get an email with up

to 25 posts in it. Most are replies to other posts.

If iTunes is autoreplying, which is what we are getting, and they are

subscribed, the email should appear like a post to the group. That makes me

think that the group list itself is somehow infected with a virus. Because an

autoreply from a subscribed address should show up like another member's

autoreply did over the holidays. Once a day or so there was a post from an

autoreply from someone who was away over the holidays.
