Guest guest
Tilley as much as having this forum open to any and all topics would be best, even those vaguely related to anything related to foods, weight, medical conditions etc.., the concept behind Intuitive Eating is to return and reclaim a focus more INternally directed instead of being EXternally oriented in feeding ourselves. People new to this process tend to retain a lot of what is referred to as 'diet mentality' - you know all the rules and dos and don'ts as well as 'social' dictates and so called wisdom regarding 'ideal' body types and conditions. So when a post contains words or concepts that are more diet related, other members can be 'triggered' - as in having that focus re-surfaced for them. Asking about weighing one's self is a usual newbie question as most members tend to be quite 'weight' focused when beginning IE. Being able to switch that focus to sensing how one's body feels before/during/following eating can be harder when thoughts about weight over ride that feedback. So those who have been getting IE going for them will generally try and steer such a focus towards the practices that help in a positive way instead of reinforcing a more diet mentality oriented one. Perhaps the easiest guideline I can think of is to stick to the IE principles and how these one is working at the practice of them. Certainly contrasting with how one previously felt about and dealt with those topics in one's old diet ways can help make a point. Its just not as helpful to drag or allow diet type thinking and practices to be overly discussed here. Hope that is somewhat helpful and not 'clear as mud'?!? Really, I wouldn't worry about it greatly since I'm sure you will understand soon enough as you read here and post your concerns just like you did! What exactly is it that we're not supposed to mention? I've been thinking about it, and I really don't get it, because it couldn't possibly be the names of actual foods (since this is a support forum for intuitive eating and eating always involves foods and if we're talking about our experiences how can we avoid talking about foods, and anyway, the world is filled with images and words that evoke foods), and it can't possibly be the foods themselves (since, unlike my office at work where people can--and sometimes do--bring in edible things that I'd rather not have around, this is an electronic forum, and I can't imagine it being talking about behaviors, since again, behaviors are what I assume most of us are working on, which leaves.... > > ....I dunno.
