I don't remember all that has been posted on this before but another useful trick is to take a higher level and lower level on alternate days such as 4, 3, 4, 3. This might reduce how much pill splitting you need to do. God bless.

Subject: Tapering prednisone

I looked for that post but don't remember whose it was. I did find one exchange that may be useful when you get lower...Have your doc prescribe the 1 mg pills. It is too inaccurate to break the fivers down. You can break the one mg into quarters...inagine the difference in tapering ability! !PrisWhen I was on 5mg Prednisone, I used to divide that tiny little tablet into 4 pieces and reduced the dosage by only 1/4 tablet at a time.Good luck to you all.Annette

Hi everyone, Tapering prednisone has been a long and weary battle for me. I have been on it since I was dx'd in 1999. My peak dose was 80 mg a day. My current, 3.5 mg a day, is my lowest. I also began tapering 1 milligram at a time since 15mg/day. under 5 mg/day my rheumy was so conserned about my body rejecting the dose that I have had to taper .5 mg at a time.

My dress size before prednisone was a 6. At my peak weight gain I was an 18.

My best friend is getting married on July 30th and my bridesmaid dress is a size 12! Woohoo!

I just got engaged a few weeks ago. Chad & I are getting married next May and I hope ( & pray) that I hope totally off of the prednisone by then.

Take care,

Hi Steph

Each month my doctor takes me down 2.5 mgs. I think he'll prolly go to

..5's when I get lower. I'm down to 5 mgs from 15 (20mgs at some times).

Did you do anything different to get down to a 12 or did the weight just

come off from going off of prednisone? I get more flares now tho.

Congrats to you! I hope you will be able to get off of it soon :-)

Best wishes on your engagement, ! I was just in a wedding 2

weeks ago and I sweated it out trying to maintain my weight so I could fit in to

a size 10! I had to really watch my diet since I have been unable to exercise

with the chronic costochondritis I have.
