Guest guest
Here's something I've been noticing with IE: while it has not kept me from overeating on the occasions when I'm most likely to overeat--potlucks, parties, the appearance of treats at work--it has changed what I do afterwards. Now I'm much more likely to wait until I'm hungry again to eat instead of continuing on my regular schedule. For example, this morning at our inservice, there were treats, which I ate, but then, instead of eating the healthy breakfast which I had brought and left in my room, which I would definitely have done before, because of course one should eat a healthy breakfast. I did eat a little of it much later when I was hungry, but then I wasn't hungry at lunchtime (guess I still had enough treats in me), so I did something else instead of eating lunch. I just realized that all these years, I've been eating double! The healthy meal that I prepared, and the unexpected treats.....and now, listening to me body, it's pretty clear I don't need both. Guest guest
I have noticed this as well. The idea of a routine itself is slowly losing its appeal. I tend to be very hungry from about 1-4 PM every day. I want to eat one thing after another. I used to dread this time and force myself to restrict: "you already ate lunch, you can't have any more food until official snack time or dinner." But now that I allow myself to eat when hungry, I find that, yes, I am eating several times in this time-period, but I recently noticed something: I am hardly ever hungry in the evenings. I used to force down dinner, but now I accept the fact that I do most of my eating in the afternoon and very little at night. I wonder why I thought this was so horrible before?MimiSubject: AfterwardsTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Friday, October 14, 2011, 3:10 PM Here's something I've been noticing with IE: while it has not kept me from overeating on the occasions when I'm most likely to overeat--potlucks, parties, the appearance of treats at work--it has changed what I do afterwards. Guest guest
Truly interesting observation Mimi! I used to beat myself up over eating in the evenings (after dinner) but the truth for me is that I usually have a good, albeit later breakfast and the don't eat until dinner. And while I eat well at dinner, it would seem that even though I fill up (satisfied and maybe a bit +), I must not be replacing all the energy requirements that my body really needs. Now that I don't fight with myself over evening 'snacking', I am more selective and tend to eat less than when I fretted over doing that. Our bodies do know what and when and its NOT by any clock either ;-) Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I have noticed this as well. The idea of a routine itself is slowly losing its appeal.
