Guest guest
BINGO!! I say this qualifies for that 'one thing' you gained from IE that was a topic just a bit ago. Its soooo right and dang easy once you 'get' it. Bravo and Congrats too :-) :-) ehugs, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > >I guess a lesson I have been learning on one food after another lately is that fake substitutions just feel unsatisfying. Guest guest
You know I've been thinking about this and the issue of food "substitutions" and I think it's really interesting. We've been talking about all the "mock" food items we used to "indulge" in during the holidays and the faux pumpkin pie really is the epitome of this. It's like trying to make something into something it's not and then convincing yourself that it's exactly like the thing you are substituting it for. I didn't realize why I would eventually become angry and rebel when trying to eat low fat ice cream or nonfat cheese and butter. You eventually have to admit the truth and the truth is that they are not the same. And then there is the added anger that you have been trying to lie to yourself. I was watching the Cooking Channel show "Hungry Girl" recently and she made what she called a "luscious tropical island" burger with a soy patty, non-fat cheese, a light whole-wheat bun, and a slice of pineapple. Now it's fine if you like those foods and that combination, but it was really not going to taste "just like" that burger she had on vacation. I'm not advocating eating one over the other, but they are different foods and your body knows it. Trying to play mind games with yourself only goes so far....
