Doctor's visits

I wanted to chime in on my experience with my Doctor.

When I first started IE, I asked to not be weighed. The nurse made a bigger

deal of it than the doctor did. Now I can be weighed (only at the doctor's

office) and the number doesn't bother me. I know it is not a reflection of who

I am as a person, it is just a number. I set up no expectations of what I think

or want it to be. I have been pleasantly surpised at what the number ended up

being.

I found my Doctor rather neutral when I mentioned IE. I told him some of the

changes I was making in my life such as my exercise and how I was eating. He

was surprisingly supportive. I realized that his main goal is to keep my blood

pressure in check as well as all my blood work. He wanted me to go for a

certain test which I have declined (partially for financial reasons as I have no

health ins.) but has accepted my wishes. He can only recommend, but it has to

be me, the patient that wants to do it.

I think when we prepare to go to the Dr. office, we get so anxious and stressed

out and our fears get in the way. I would get quiet, do some deep breathing and

relax. Recognize your fears and anxiety, but don't push it away. Try to ask

yourself, " what am I afraid of? " and determine what your fears are about and

why. Once you recognize it, I imagine the fear and anxiety will subside a bit.

Keep us posted and good luck.
