Guest guest
Concerning differnet alternative meds like herbal and such is quite dangerous. They do have their place in medicine just this one is way different. My sister who is in to homeopathy couldn't get it untill I wrote out in black and white that My immune system is working overtime..I do not need anything to boost it. I t could kill me.This is such a serious disease and I think sometimes that people don't understand that.Like in a previous note I spelled it out. Thanks Nina for that article..........................Skye But it is true that certain gfoods can actually make the immune system worse off so one does need to find out what foods are good and bad relating to RA.thank you ..............Skye
Guest guest
The immune system is so complex that it is unlikely that all of it is either overactive or underactive. Likewise any food, drug, or herb is likely to have some effect on some part of the immune system and it is quite possible that it will make some part more active and some part less active. RA is generally said to cause the immune system to be overactive, and Vitamin C is generally said to enhance the immune system. However, a doctor has told me that Vitamin C helps people with RA because of its overall beneficial effect. Please be careful of generalizations about the immune system. God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: gonzo_skye Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Saturday, April 16, 2005 11:34 PM Subject: you r so right Concerning differnet alternative meds like herbal and such is quite dangerous. They do have their place in medicine just this one is way different. My sister who is in to homeopathy couldn't get it untill I wrote out in black and white that My immune system is working overtime..I do not need anything to boost it. I'll have to defer to the doctors and scientists that study AI diseases as far as how the immune system functions. All I've heard and read says it is over active with AI diseases. I do, however, personally believe that food is okay. It's when you start taking fake food (supplements) that you have to worry since they are not regulated by the FDA and you have no idea exactly what or how much you are getting. Guest guest
I guess it depends on what doctor you talk to. A while back I posted a question on WebMD: My question to WebMD: "A recent WebMD report says that Vitamin C fights colds by increasing the immune system. In RA the immune system fights our joints. Does Vitamin C make RA worse?"Response: "Dr__, on 3/31/2003 3:57:12 PM In RA, it's a very specific response in the immune system that appears to be overactive. The whole immune system isn't revved up. Therefore, vitamin C should not have any ill effect on RA" ----- Original Message ----- From: Nina Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Sunday, April 17, 2005 12:10 PM Subject: Re: you r so right ----- Original Message ----- From: Harold Van Tuyl .. Guest guest
I find it quite interesting how people put such faith in the FDA approvals. The FDA approves sugar substitutes, yet there is alot of evidence that Spenda and Equal are both very harmful to our heath......Check it out. The side effects from these are outrageous and documented yet still allowed on the market. Dr. Mercola writes alot on this subject I refer you to one of his articles (http://www.mercola.com/2005/apr/2/splenda_propaganda.htm The FDA approves medications yet look how many medications have been pulled off the market recently, considered unsafe, and the information has been available to the FDA for a long time, yet still allowed on the market. My family physician has such faith in the FDA that he prefers not to use new medications.......when I asked him about a new med once for my son he said, yes perhaps we should try that before the fad wears out and it's discovered not to work after all or is discovered to have terrible side effects. I wouldn't blindly trust the FDA testing anymore than I would trust everything a doctor tells me, if I did I would never have changed my diet or added a supplement therefore I would still be on medications and hurting because 2 out of 3 of my doctors claimed that diet and nutrition had no relation to RA........That was a little too silly to believe so I did my own investigations. As was stated in this forum before, we can find information to support anything we want to believe. I'd rather believe I can be well, find info to support that belief and go after it, than live with the alternative.
