Guest guest
Lynn, Welcome to the list. Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources Introduction I just signed up, and have already sent in a few responses, so figured that I'd better introduce myself. My name is Lynn, my dh is Troy, and dd born 8-16-99 is (Vee). She is our first, and thankfully we have wonderful extended family who also dote on her So our trick is to keep her from becoming spoiled, but every family should have that problem. Although it was mostly an act of will the first few months, we perservered with bf and now love it! She loves to nurse and I can't imagine her ever being ready to wean. My dh tolerates it We recently had an interesting discussion, where decided that he wanted me to continue full time bf (I planned to drop to just morning and bedtime so that I wouldn't have to pump at work) so that we wouldn't have to buy formula. However, he resents the time and energy bf takes, hates nursing bras, etc. Probably pretty typical of husbands.. So I am still full time bf for at least a few more months. I pump at work, using a PIS. I work a compressed work week, and dh is self employed, so between the two of us we care for dd at home with occasional help from my mother. How that is all I needed for my intro. I will be writting often, I am sure Lynn ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Visit Ancestry.com for a FREE 14-Day Trial and find your ancestors now. Guest guest
There are basically 4 meeting topics that get rotated through. I would suggest starting now so that you can hit all 4. The weaning/introducing foods one may not be as pertinent but the first three are great for expecting moms. Jenn -----Original Message----- From: rebecca_rsb@... Guest guest
Check the website first. Some groups keep quite a bit of info there. www.lalecheleague.org <http://www.lalecheleague.org> and click on find a local group, then it walks you through areas and may have leader numbers listed for you. Sorry I cannot give more details, personal email time is pretty limited today. Since I access most of it from work, it depends on the work flow. :-( Jenn Re: Introduction > There are basically 4 meeting topics that get rotated through. Guest guest
, You should start attending LLL meetings at least 4 months before your baby comes (if time remains) to attend a full series of meetings, but you can really start at anytime. I found it nice to attend ahead, and then went on to make friends with the other women who have children mines' ages. To get started, find a LLL leader in your community/area and ask when the meetings are--then just show up. These are not classes. The format is a topic discussion and then open forum for any other questions. Amy Lynn M.

Guest guest
DeShea, Poe's birthday is on my Birthday! Neat!. Too bad you got bad advise the 1st time around. A lactation consultant suggested Sugar water? Wow unreal. That is never needed. Latch on is learned not instinct believe it or not. As for the LLL, I would call LLL international and complain about this leader. they are suppose to help you regardless if you are a member or not. I highly encourage you to find a new one and seek their help again. My LLL leader is the best!!! She said we do not need to be members at all and was/is just as helpful whether you are a member or not. Seeking professional help is really important. I can give you the e-mail address to my local leader too if you would like. The 1st few weeks try to avoid any bottles or pacifiers as the can cause nipple confusion. Try a few different holds to see what is comfortable for you both. Co-sleep if at all possible. You will get more sleep doing this. Good luck Laurie Introduction Hi! I am new to the list and wanted to introduce myself. My name isDeShea. I am 14 weeks pregnant with my second child. My first child Poe(ds), was born December 22,1998. I breastfed him for approximatly 5weeks but was unable to continue due to latch on problems as well ashaving very little to no support with my breastfeeding. I had never been around anyone who had bf'ed before so I didn'tknow what I was doing. My MIL just told me to stick it in his mouth andhe would know what to do! I called my lactation consultant every day andall she would say to do is keep trying or give him a bottle of sugarwater. My local LLL leader was of NO help, she said that since I was nota member of the LLL that she could not ( more like would not ) help me.So as you can tell I have had my share of problems on my breastfeedingroad. I wholeheartedly plan to breastfeed this child when it is born. Ihave since read many books on breastfeeding as well as joined e-mailcircles, found wonderful breastfeeding friends and started breastfeedingclasses. My only main cocern right now is that I am financially unableto stay at home with my child past my 12 week (unpaid) maternity leave.I know that I am going to have to purchase a pump. Right now I am unabletp decide which one would be the best for my needs. I have heard thatthe Medela Pump in Style and the Purely Yours by Ameda Egnell were bothfabulous pumps. Guest guest
DeShea, Welcome to the list. I am sorry to hear you didn't get the support you needed with your first. I hope this time around you get all the support you need and more. As for the pumps I would say that for you the Ameda Purely Yours would be a good choice. It is a good pump and is much less expensive than the PIS. It also is a closed system so it can't be contaminated with milk. My local LLL leader was of NO help, she said that since I was not a member of the LLL that she could not ( more like would not ) help me. So as you can tell I have had my share of problems on my breastfeeding road. I wholeheartedly plan to breastfeed this child when it is born. I have since read many books on breastfeeding as well as joined e-mail circles, found wonderful breastfeeding friends and started breastfeeding classes. My only main cocern right now is that I am financially unable to stay at home with my child past my 12 week (unpaid) maternity leave. I know that I am going to have to purchase a pump. Right now I am unable tp decide which one would be the best for my needs. I have heard that the Medela Pump in Style and the Purely Yours by Ameda Egnell were both fabulous pumps. Can anyone help with this situation? Oh well, I have knawed off your ears for long enough in this letter, I will write more later.
