Hi ,

Any time you change your dosage or go on or off mino, you could very

well encounter a herx. I personally think it's not a good idea to go

off the AP unless medically necessary, even if you achieve total

remission. If you do achieve remission, you can often go down to a

maintenance dose but I again must say, I think it's unwise to stop

taking mino completely. Your symptoms certainly sound like a herx and

combined with the info that you stopped and then started the AP again, a

herx would definitely be my guess. I'm glad to hear your liver tests

seem to be okay now, that must certainly be good news. So, hang in

there with the herx, watch your diet, drink tons of water and try to get

as much rest as possible. If the herx becomes more than you can handle,

you can also try easing back on your mino dosage, then gradually easing

up again. That often helps to lessen the herx. Hope you feel better

soon.

well until last summer when I went on holidays and stuff and went off my

antibiotics for about 3-4 weeks. Started taking them again in September and in

the fall I began to get these weird night sweats and low grade fever, but my

joints continued to feel fine. When I went ot see Dr. Franco he told me that I

should see my family doctor when I got back home as my liver function test was

abnormal and ESR was high. He said that it might be a signal of cancer or

hepatitis. I was checked out be by a cancer specialist and an infectious

disease specialist and by that time my liver function was normal and all other

tests, including an MRI, etc all revealed nothing. Some kind of reassurance, I

guess. Today I am tired all the time, am having some RA flares, night sweats,

low grade fevers, etc. Does this sound like a second herx to anyone? Anyone

have a similar experience.

Hi Jeff and , and Everyone

I just want to say that I also had fevers and herxed for about 3 yrs off and on. and it was pretty hard pn me, but my RA disappeared that was over 10 yrs. ago, and the Drs.also took me off the maintance dose back then as my blood tests were perfect, well 6 months later off the AP I developed Discoid Lupus. Yes we can say well that would have happened anyway, but I truely don"t think so. I went back on the AP takeing Doxycycline 50mg twice aday MWF, and my skin lupus is under control again. It has not done any damage to my organs and my blood tests are normal except for anemia which I have to watch. It is of course only my view, but don't be so quick to get off the AP as if you slip back it is hard and this treatment is very safe compared to others, at least take a small dose for maintance. I now have a normal life, and I was in terrible shape 15 yrs. ago and bed-ridden back then, I couldn't even walk by my self. NO dr. will ever take me off this again without a very good reason. If the minocin is to strong go on the doxycyline in a smaller dose. Drs. are to quick to say oh it is causing this or that or you are all better now so quit the AP. I truely believe I would not have gotten Skin Lupus if I had stayed on the treatment. The most I would stay off is afew weeks then back on. No I am not a DR. but I have been there and back, and I am fine thats why I am on this line, plus the new info is great. Just my view and I wish you all the sucess this treatment can bring to you with patience. Thank You from Ohio

I had arecent experience that may or may not be similar to yours. I ahve been on the AP 9 months for SD. A couple months ago I started getting fevers and sweats nightly. Some nights my temp would rise to 103-4F, some nights more mild. Went through all the tests looking for some kind of infection, but everything came back negative. The fevers persisted for 6 weeks on a very routine basis. Then three weeks ago for the first time since being diagnosed w/ SD I had a positive ANA and SED rate. My Dr suggested I stop all my meds including minocin. I talked to him on a Friday, stopped minocin the next day, and Sunday night was the first night that I had w/o a fever in 6+ weeks. I've been off the AP for two weeks now and no more fevers. The correlation was unmistakable. My Dr. explained that it was a drug induced reaction w/ Lupus symptoms including fevers in response to the antibiotic. This reaction is well documented although relatively rare. Now I'm faced witha decision whether to remain off minocin. I will at least for now. After more thoughts and discussions I may decide to try again after I get my blood rechacked.

Just wanted to relate my story as I thought it may be similar to yours.
