Guest guest
Food elimination diets... oh I bet you're going to hear loads about how fabulous they are from our resident Tofu Gurus, whom I love and would never ever cheerfully make fun of (hi !) ... but the diets aren't for everyone. Asking " do they work? " is the same as asking about whether MTX works or acupuncture works or Mobic works. Sometimes it does, sometimes not. The only thing to do is try and find out. As much as you may be scared to test it and discover that you're healthier by eating only sprouts grown under the light of the Swiss crescent moon and German goat's milk imbued with acorn butter, that has to be better than a lifetime of chemicals. I think. My parents put me on various elimination diets when I was a teenager. For a while I ate various combinations of no red meat, not any kind of meat, no nightshade vegetables, no wheat, no sugar, no salt, no caffeine, no French fries, no dairy products, no things that are yellow with speckles. It did not work for me. None of it ever made the slightest whit of difference, other than dropping my weight so low that I ended in the hospital a few different times being plumped up intravenously because I wasn't allowed to be in the same room with food that tasted good. That being said, I have heard of very good results with elimination diets. The key here is that you have to be unusually sensitive to something for it to work a miracle. My immune system is in pretty good shape -- in fact it's been violently attacking me for twelve years now -- and it doesn't object to any food I've come across. It's friendly with pollen and pet dander too. The elimination diets didn't work for me because I'm not allergic to any food product that I know of. Many people, perhaps you, are allergic to certain foods without even knowing it. You'd have to talk to someone more knowledgeable than me on the most common culprits (hi again !). I'd guess maybe wheat and dairy are the things that unknowingly and sneakily cause problems for the largest number of people, but don't take my word for that. So... my advice is to try the elimination diets, but don't keep making yourself miserable if it's been three weeks of no cream in your coffee, you don't feel any better, and you're about to sell your first born child for a milkshake. Congratulations; you aren't allergic to dairy products. Pour yourself a glass of frosty chocolate milk and try eliminating something else instead. After a while of this you're going to either discover that cutting out a certain food makes you feel much better, or you're going to decide the diet route is all crap and head for the drive-up lane at Mc's while figuring out which other idea to try next. Jenni, eating a red-meat rare burger on a wheat flour bun with cheese and tomato and mayonnaise, so neener neener! PS. There's still a bird in my living room. He tucked his head under his wing around last night and slept on the ceiling fan 20 feet above me, and a bit before dawn he woke up and swooped down to drink some water out of a glass dish and peck at the hamster food. He's now back to hopping from one fan to another, chirping at me, and occasionally swooping for another seed. I've named him Dandelion. The specialty vet's assistant is coming by in about an hour with a really tall extension ladder to collect him.
Guest guest
Jenni, you have talent, you should write stories, I'm certain people would love to read them. You have a very unique style of humor that could give many people's day a lift. In fact, let's work together, get you better (through diet, lol) and then you could write about it. Oh that would be too hillarious, I'd buy that book. Anyway, I didn't start out illiminating foods from my diet. I started out just adding the Limu Plus everyday and this made me so much better that I wanted to continue on learning about health and how to maintain my health for life. The foods to illiminate are, as Jenni said, Dairy, Wheat, Sugar, Red Meat, Alcohol, Caffiene, Salt and a few fruits that turn acidic in the body, Mellons and citrus fruit (except lemon and lime) (of course this means ALL PROCESSED FOOD) Drink lots of water. Take a quality nutritional product each day. Be religious about your eating habits for 1 - 3 months then slowly try reintroducing foods. (What I did was count down the days, telling myself, only 27 days left, or if that bothered me, less than 4 weeks left) If nothing seems to bother you an accepted rule of thumb is the 70/30 rule. 70% of the time eat healthy and a maximum of 30% of the time have some of the " other foods " . So you see Jenni, I don't believe in trying to make people perfect. (won't happen) I have trouble with wheat, very typical and I suspect Dairy (but I gave that up so many years ago I can't remember why) I don't have trouble with red meat and since I have the occassional drink I'd say I'm not overly affected by alcohol, although I won't touch it if I'm run down. Other things you can try are a liver cleanse and a parasite cleanse. Neither are overly expensive and can make a big difference in over all health. If your body is filled with parasites then your lymphatic system is not functioning well either. Now back to Jenni's problem with the bird, Dandelion (cute name)......I don't see a problem, the bird was attracted by your amazing humor and just wants to stay around and visit..........mmmm bird dropping all over your house. But seriously I hope the vet is able to catch your friend and set him free..........You named him, you must like him. ----- Original Message ----- From: " Jenni " <chaospearl@...> <Rheumatoid Arthritis > Sent: Thursday, May 19, 2005 4:18 PM Subject: Re: food elim diet > Food elimination diets... oh I bet you're going to hear loads about how > fabulous they are from our resident Tofu Gurus, whom I love and would > never > ever cheerfully make fun of (hi !) ... but the diets aren't for > everyone.
