I am a stepmom raising two stepsons that are 9 and 7 years old. Two years ago

their mother attempted suicide by overdose of prescription meds and was

subsequently diagnosed with BPD. Primary custody was then assigned to my

husband, their father. But the boys still spend almost half of their time at

their mother's house. Her behavior is classic BPD, and it seems to get worse

and worse over the years. I have a close relationship with my stepsons, I have

known them since they were 5 and 3. I have searched for information on how

having a parent with BPD can affect someone, but have found little. I recently

found this list serv and am looking for the following information/advice:

How does having a parent with BPD affect someone in childhood, and then as an

adult? In our situation, since the children have two homes, what can my husband

and I do to protect the children from these effects? This may be impossible -

so what can we do to minimize those effects?

Thank you so much in advance.
