Re: Anxiety/Crying, Is It Strep Infection or Antibiotic That Is Triggering It?

My son had the infection 2 days ago. Doctor put him on augmentin. He became so agressive, emotional and also he is itching a lot. I know that those are the side effects but it really scares me to continue to the antibiotic. He is on day 4, we have 6 more days to go. I am not sure which is damaging my son, strep or augmentin? I wrote to my DAN but did not get any response yet.

My dd5 has PANDAS. We started on Azithromycin (saw big Wows!) and after 5 or so

weeks, started to back slide, so our Dr. has us try Augmentin SR (slow release,

2x a day) it killed her stomach- she basically stopped eating (very little) and

stopped drinking as much, constipated (yes, I did probiotics and Diflucan with

it, clean diet, gave her stuff for constipation) on the 3rd day when she slumped

from the kitchen table chair to under the table, I PULLED it. Got right back on

the Azith., she is eating, pooing, drinking- much better!

G/L -- I got my Azith. from a compounding pharmacy in a liquid (GF/CF/SF dye

free, and yet good tasting) now she swallows pills, and they made up the Azith.

We started at treatment dose- for my dd5, who weighs 40 pounds, that is 200 mg a

day, 1x a day- Azith. has a longer life in the body (up to 1-1 1/2 days) and

gave ibuprofen 2x a day, at treatment dose for her body weight. Took copious,

detailed daily notes. I recommend a 30 day trial. Give a good probiotic.

I also had her tested for PANDAS through a blood test at a university research

center- it measures the auto-immune function in the brain- we came back

high/severe PANDAS.

She has had this untreated for some years-

It is hard, and sad (just had a heartbreaking night)

We are going to IVIG in a few weeks- prayers appreciated, a quick good

thought...I really love this little girl.
