Welcome.  It's ok for you to post here I'm sure.  One thing IE addresses is that there are no forbidden foods, even so called " junk " foods, because once you make it forbidden you crave it more, like a rebellious child who has been told she can't have a certain food, etc. I also heard those foods referred to as " fun " foods and I like that much better tahn " forbidden, because for me even the word " forbidden " means I can't have it.  If you were to tell me I could never have a piece of chocolate again or cake, or cookie I would know right there that I would not be able to keep that " rule " .  I have also heard them referred to as danger foods but that agin for me triggers the rebellious kid who wants to eat as much of it as possible.  " I'll show you " mentality.  There is a lot in the IE book and I am finding and it very valuable but too much to go into here.  You will get some ideas from the posts.  You might want to think about getting the IE book.  I even got the IE audio CD's because I am not a great reader.  I am finding both are complimenting each other.  Sandy

I confess I haven't read the book " intuitive eating " so I hope its ok for me to post here.

I've read Geneen Roth's books about giving up dieting and listening to your body.

One thing that concerns me is, how do we develop the intuition so it really goes for healthy foods instead of junk foods, so it is aligned with our true, healthy, energetic, beautiful selves

I heard Geneen Roth speak, and she talked about what the body " wants " --isn't that different from what the body " needs " ?

thoughts?

Hi Foggy. I think I eat mostly healthy foods. Maybe I'm fooling myself? I'm not sure what you mean by unhealthy foods. Can you explain? Maybe that will help you if you explain a bit. TaiTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Tuesday, June 14, 2011 10:44 AMSubject: Intuition--how to listen?

I just realized from that question that I have a lot of " forbidden " foods on my list.  The ones I call " unhealthy " .  Like potato chips, sweets(cookies, cake pie, etc.) and candy, anything chocolate.  All the foods I love.  I guess I have a lot to work on here.  Sometimes these ideas, thoughts, feelings are very tricky and in disguise.  You have given me a lot more to think about.  If I listen to my body though I have come to identify those which make me feel awful, like pancakes and syrups, donuts, more.  And I have a lot that don't agree with me due to reflux and IBS, like pizza spices/spicy foods to mention a few.  Thanks for posting that question to Foggy.  It rang a bell with me.  Sandy

Yes, I wonder what a person would consider as unhealthy. I term some foods as junk, offhand that would be chips and candy. I do permit myself to eat them, but because potato chips (especially) are in the really-bad-for-you category, I no longer indulge nor do I want to eat them. If I am with someone who is eating them, I might permit myself to have them. I consider frankfurters as junk food as well, yet I will eat them. So go figure. Cheese is also on my not-so-good list, yet I eat that also. Ah well, go figure. If I made up a list of 'should's' and 'shouldn'ts,' I would not be able to live too well, lol. Now that you mention doughnuts, pancakes & the like, yes, those would be on my 'not-real-good-for-you' list. But I will allow myself the choice to have them. I generally choose to reject those foods, but they are

not on my forbidden list. It is amazing, that when you tell yourself you CAN have those foods, the rational mind sets in. I'd rather have a salad now (sometimes), except the one I'm eating has feta cheese and marinated olives in it (very salty). However, it's really good, better than chips and candy, maybe, though, just as unhealthy, except I guess I eat less of it than chips (?) because it's high in bulk with the broccoli and other veggies. It's good though. I thought about it. Maybe I need therapy to give up salty foods? TaiTo:

Sorry, I'm on my phone and it threw up. ;)I just wanted to say that for me, junk food is food with no nutritional value. Sugar laden foods have a low nutritional value. Cheese has some nutritional value so it isn't junk. Junk food is also farther from the whole food. So if you can't identify what it was made from, then it may be junk food. Again, candy more junky, cheese, less junky. I find that food makes me feel in my stomach how it is. Cheese is heavy, so I feel heavy. Broccoli is lighter, so I feel lighter. When I decide to eat, I try to think about how it will taste and feel in my mouth, how it will feel in my stomach, and how I will feel after I eat it. Sometimes I need heavy cheese or dense chocolate cake. And sometimes I need a veggie burger. And sometimes I need an apple. Foggy asked about wanting and needing. I am going through a little health issue right now. Salt and caffeine are not great for me. I wanted a diet cola last night. I took one sip. It wasn't what I wanted. And u gave it to my ex and had water. In other words, if you listen to your whole body, I think it does give you a message of what you need. Patti

I've read Geneen Roth's books about giving up dieting and listening to your body.

One thing that concerns me is, how do we develop the intuition so it really goes for healthy foods instead of junk foods, so it is aligned with our true, healthy, energetic, beautiful selves

I heard Geneen Roth speak, and she talked about what the body "wants"--isn't that different from what the body "needs"?

thoughts?

Patti

TaiTo:

I just realized from that question that I have a lot of "forbidden" foods on my list. The ones I call "unhealthy". Sandy

Hi Foggy. I think I eat mostly healthy foods. Maybe I'm fooling myself? I'm not sure what you mean by unhealthy foods. Can you explain? Maybe that will help you if you explain a bit. Tai

I glad you are back on track.  I've been a little off myself.  Sandy

Hi Sandy,

Thanks so much for sharing. I walked to work  in this morning a little confused about dieting again and your post put me back to the right track...
