Writer's block and anger

I have noticed there are a lot of writers on this site. I have aspired to become

a writer my entire life and had been making great progress. I had joined an

online writing community much like this site. I had made writing friends and I

was getting published in small presses and working up towards some niche presses

specific to my profession when fada moved in. I have had writer's block ever

since. I think I have such anger that I am afraid to write for fear of what will

come out on the page. Have any of you experienced anything similar and did you

work through it and if so, how did you do it.

Thanks

Kay

No ma'am, I don't think I've even had writers block for longer than about 10

min, but I mainly write non-fiction, like features articles for the local

news type stuff. My big tip if you want to write well is to read well.

Personally, when I started writing daily I made sure to study the newspapers

and see how they used the language. But then I do news writing, so I'd find

something in the style that interests you and study the living hell out of

how the construct their sentances and choose their topics etc.

I hope that helps. Let me know if it does. LOVE LOVE LOVE to write.

XOXO, Girlscout

Kay,that's really great that you were able to make so much progress! I am

not even a quarter of the way that far. You've established a foundation and it's

going to still be there.

I think the reasons for writer's block are a bit different for

everyone.When I am feeling existential despair,myself,I can't write because

despair does not inspire me at all and I just don't want to go down that path on

the page.Is there something about feeling angry that you find stultifying to

your creative impulse? Like it's too negative to get your ideas flowing? When I

am feeling despair I don't like the ideas I come up with and don't really want

to put my " muse " in service to them.I have to find some kind of attitude

adjustment!

Personally, when I am feeling nihilistic I let the scenes I could write

about along those lines play out imaginatively in my mind until they become so

outrageous they begin to transmute themselves into something more life affirming

and coherent--and that is what I write down.

Other writers have stated that it helps to set aside a time in the day to

write *anything*,as an exercise in discipline, even if that doesn't bear fruit at

first.When I'm feeling despair I can't write it out,only think it out,but being

aware of when those creativity killing feelings start to subside even just a

little and writing down *any ideas* I have just then that suggest a lightening

of the load helps if only because I know that I can go back to them later when

I'm less blocked and sometimes just paying attention to one little non

despairing idea can unblock me.

I don't know if that helps but I certainly wish you all the best with

your writing.Being blocked is never permanent, you will find your way to

inspiration again!
