Guest guest
Hi - started Prilosec at 9 years of age (he is 16 now) . He is still on the same dose - 10mg per day. Our insurance no longer wanted to cover Prilosec because there is an OTC version now. However, the OTC version is 20mg and is a tablet. needs the capsules that are prescription only because he opens the capsules and swallows the granules (they clog the g-tube). Our ped spent 20 minutes negotiating with our insurance, but now we're good to go ) I think we are on Prilosec because it was just new then (we had previously been on Tagamet). Good luck- Yuka Prilosec for Reflux > This is directed to Carmen's mom (and any other kids on meds for reflux). > > At what age did Carmen start Prilosec? The only reason I ask is that Evan is on generic Prevacid. Our insurance company recently sent a letter stating they wouldn't cover another Prevacid Rx until we tried generic Prilosec for something like 90 days...you know, the usual cutting cost routine--which I do understand their point of view. Evan's pediatrician would not change him from Prevacid. He told me that Prilosec and Nexium both are not approved for pediatric use. He was going to write a letter to the insurance company. > > Just curious about this. > > >

Guest guest
Hi , Carmen is on the generic form of Prilosec--it's actually " omeprazole " and is in a 10 mg capsule. I break open the capsule into a teaspoon or so of applesauce which she takes every morning. This is an approved way of taking it per the maker of the drug. Our insurance company automatically chooses an equivalent generic instead of the actual drug--the generic form seems to work very well for Carmen. Is the generic form of prevacid not working for Evan? It was actually Carmen's pediatric pulmonary doctor who put Carmen on Prilosec and it is working great. Carmen was on generic prevacid for a while and I believe was switched over for some reason. I do know that other children are also on prilosec without any issue of it being an " adult only " drug. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Hi , Evan has never tried Prilosec, he has always been on generic prevacid. We have always had it in a 3 mcg/mL suspension mixed by the pharmacy. So, I will see what happens with the insurance company. (mom to Evan, 8 mos w/ CHARGE) --------------------------------- Yahoo!
