Guest guest
I think an anthology about the KO experience is an excellent idea! Once again,Mia,we're of a like mind--I've wished for quite some time now that we KO's could put together such an anthology. I love anthologies and have read two that were very educational for me and if we could do that...put forth our experience with the chapters arranged so that the reader gets a sense of what it is to be a KO,such as contributions on themes such as (just general examples): --Childhood/being raised by a BP --Discovering BPD/coming to awareness stories --Boundary setting/going NC or LC/learning how to deal with the disorder --The fall out/aftermath/psychological challenges to overcome --the life of a KO/FOG/Flying monkeys Etc,etc...The two best anthologies I've ever read were " This Bridge Called My Back, writings by radical women of color " that had essays, first person accounts, poetry and art work that is now used in university courses---that would be an added benefit besides raising funds for a non profit,if our anthology was used in university social work, psychology and teacher's courses...The other really well done anthology I've read is--don't laugh--- " Lesbian Nuns:Breaking Silence " that treats a subject most people have no idea even exists and manages to be very informative--it was an education for me to read that book and I haven't seen nuns in the same way since lol... Yes,this is a totally worthy project and I think it would find a publisher.I'd love to contribute and help out!!!!! I think maybe what we'd need to do is format it first and then see how many people would be interested in contributing to specific chapters, anonymously or otherwise...and to start soliciting contributions for general KO artwork and poetry too. Ok,so I'm excited by this idea.I think if we put our heads together we could pull this off too.But we need to flesh out a format first,it seems to me,and then to have a place where people can send their contributions to some editorial committee. We could start a separate group for that on Yahoo groups. I say let's take our time and flesh this idea out.We can do it!!! > > Every time someone posts a wonderful poem, I think, " Gee, it would be cool > if we collaborated and made a book of our writings & art to tell the story > of BPD from an adult survivor's standpoint " . Guest guest
I agree with --arranging the contributions around themes would help keep it organized, and help the readers follow along. Also, depending on how many submissions we get, we could allow people to submit more than one story/poem/etc. For the logistics of organizing the book, we will indeed need a separate group for it. Looking at the tasks--first off we need a specific email address that people can submit works to and communicate with. Second, we need a corresponding group where we can organize accordingly. Third, we need to draft a licensing/permission form (as mentioned in the Poem about Nada thread) in order to make everything legally hunky-dory, including whether the submitter wants it published anonymously, by psudonym, or using their real name, and whether they would prefer to communicate with the editorial team indirectly (through the organizers) or directly (providing their contact information.) Fourth, we should have a few admins chosen to spearhead the project--probably me, Mia, and you too , and any others who are prepared to handle this sort of project. Only the admins would have access to the permission sheet with the pseudonym and the real names--everybody else would see pseudonym only. Fifth, we need to assemble an editorial team, in addition to the admins, who are willing to edit and revise the works. These folks will see only the names (or absence of names) as specified by the legalistic forms. Sixth, using the created group, we can have the group help the admins figure out the order in which to arrange the stories, poems, and art. Keep in mind artwork *may* have to be in black and white, unless we can have a publisher include color plates. Seventh, someone can assemble it into book format and have a final readthrough for last minute thoughts, ideas, and suggestions. Eight--look for a publisher! I find Yahoo really cumbersome, though--would anybody object if the admin email for the book was a Gmail account? The group can still be Yahoo-based--but it'd need to be a Gmail account in order to set it up and have all notifications sent to it, etc. For one thing, I can keep track of email through my Droid more easily and reply quickly, etc. I apologize if it seems like I'm taking too much in charge or something---I kinda like these sorts of group projects, and I find that in my school groups, if someone lays out the plan, it helps keep the project rolling. So...how does this sound? Holly On Sun, Jan 16, 2011 at 10:43 PM, christine.depizan < christine.depizan@...> wrote: > > > I think an anthology about the KO experience is an excellent idea! Guest guest
Cool , thanks! I'm glad you like the idea & are up for it! I think a format is a really good place to start too. Still like to see if there's any more interest here from others as well. I gotta say, both the anthologies sound very interesting, but the one on lesbian nuns sounds really fascinating. You hear stories of gay men entering the priesthood for whatever reason (the ones I have heard were to do with shame, sadly) but I never considered nuns might also consider themselves gay. Anyway, great idea =) Anyone else have any input to this right now?
Guest guest
Holly, I think it all sounds like a good plan! And no, you're not taking too much charge, heck I have no idea where to start with this sort of stuff lol. But like I said, we're a smart bunch of people here we can put our heads together & figure something out. I have the luxury of time at the moment due to healing up from surgery, but at some point I will (hopefully) be returning to school. Let's not go there... that's all kinds of bumming me out & scaring me. Ugh. Anyway, I also don't object to gmail. It's what I use now and love it. And of course, a yahoo group can be set up too. Would still like a little more feedback though before we dive in too much to make sure there is interest. We could start thinking about themes & ideas for chapters as suggested & keep the creative ideas flowing =) I'm kinda excited now lol. Which always scares me a little! hehe. Guest guest
Mia, Just so we already have an Gmail address, I set one up already. I'm going to send you a private email from it with the password for it, so you'd be like an admin, too. We can hold off on creating a group until we get some more interest. I'll also create a rough draft of a permission form and post it to that email's Google Docs. and don't be too bummed out by school I'm doing lib school and I'm loving it. Guest guest
I'm interested to know how many pages are those two anthologies mentioned, just roughly. And roughly how many pages each type of contribution is, percentage-wise? Such as: a third of the pages are prose, a third are poetry and a third are artwork? Just curious. Thanks! -Annie > > > > > > Every time someone posts a wonderful poem, I think, " Gee, it would be > > cool > > > if we collaborated and made a book of our writings & art to tell the > > story > > > of BPD from an adult survivor's standpoint " . Guest guest
Ok, cool Holly. sure, send it on over. zobimia@... Just bummed out about school because I have no idea if I'll be able to afford to go back now. Have like 5 grand balance (that's not even including what I'll owe in loans) that normally has to be paid back in full before they allow students back... they're trying to work with me, get permission for me to return without paying it in full, but it will hike up what I was paying out of pocket every month, and that was all ready pretty much high for what I can afford. So terrified. Because if I can't go back before student loans come rolling in, I won't be able to go back until all those loans are paid off. Just not a good situation... and all because my body sucks and had to go crazy & need surgery in the middle of my degree. Grrrr. Mia

Guest guest
I think its a great idea and I would love to do something to contribute. I have not written anything about the BPD way of life except here in posts and emails to a few friends that I have confided in over the years, but I have been writing poetry since I was a young child as well as short stories, articles, etc. (on other topics) My biggest concern would be this: I need to remain anonymous because of nada... something of that nature with my name attached to it would surely give her a stroke... but at the same time I am not comfy having something of mine published without my name credited to it. Pseudo-name maybe? Also, if/when the book sells, how to satisfy all who contribute when it comes to where the money goes? You mentioned charity for child abuse or BPD, but what about this group? If this group creates it, shouldn't this group benefit from it? I know I'm not the only one in this group who has benefited from coming here, who looks forward to coming here... maybe there are some ideas from the group members of something more this group could provide to all of us if there were some money to finance it? What about a live private chat room we could use to visit as well as our posts here? Since we need privacy from the world and a secure, safe place to do such a thing... why not use the profits to invest in a service to provide things like that for the group members? I know I would be in a chat with with you guys any chance I got, lol. Also, if you're intending this book to lend insight to the life of KO's, children of BPD parents, please don't forget to include some positive... some hope for the reader that having a BPD parent doesn't need to mean life is over... maybe include some help resources that the KO readers can use to find help for themselves (without invading this group)? I would very much like to read " survival stories " as much as the horrors involved in living as we all have and do. Happy endings that offer hope, like we have all found each other here, the support and the bond we all share because of the BPD... that would be a nice addition. Just my two cents... I may have more to add later after I give this more thought. > > Every time someone posts a wonderful poem, I think, " Gee, it would be cool > if we collaborated and made a book of our writings & art to tell the story > of BPD from an adult survivor's standpoint " . Guest guest
Armyinlaw, That would be awesome if you created something to contribute! You can indeed use a pseudonym for privacy reasons. I know quite a few people on here are concerned about privacy and security because their nadas/fadas are obviously of unstable mind. The only thing you will actually need to share your real name is on the permission form (I will work on that tonight). This form will specify what pseudonym you will be using for your work, along with other agreements and such. Only a very small number of people will have access to that form, with special permission required if we need to share that form with the publisher or something. The people allowed to see your real name will be specified on the form, as well. Right now it'll just be Mia and me. And I will keep all these forms in an encrypted folder on my computer that my geeky husband will set up for added security. The email is also quite secured, too. As for the group to donate to, that's what's still very under consideration. Maybe Mia or I (or someone else) can start up a new thread to ask for ideas, then we can all vote on it. I like the idea of the profits benefiting this group, but I'm not sure in what form, etc. It may have to be a special committee we create in order to start an awareness campaign with the proceeds from the book. What we're hoping for is that other people will recognize themselves in the stories, and recognize BPD through the awareness campaign, so they can start getting help. And thanks for the reminders about positive things in the book My plan is to see what kinds of stories are contributed, instead of actually requesting those stories. Likely, the positive stories will focus on us breaking free of KO thoughts and fleas, rather than a miraculous recovery on part of nada/fada (rolls eyes). Keep on posting if you get more ideas and thoughts--this is still in the conceptual stage so I'm welcoming any and all input right now!
Guest guest
I think it's a GREAT idea! Very few people know about BPD and it needs to be made known. I think it would be very healing for a lot of people.
