Guest guest
Sharon, I just wanted to tell you that if you happen to be in Midland or Odessa, Dr. Oliver is the one you need to see. He's pretty great. _____ From: tomas juarez Sent: Monday, April 12, 2004 9:59 PM To: iga-nephropathy Subject: Hello Hello ! With all that is happening in your life, to take the time and notice my little " ya'll " slip, I had to giggle. I've been in Texas for the last 10 or 11 years. I've always believed that God will not give us any more than we can handle. My husband is also the financial woorier [sp?]. I truly hope things go well for you. Guest guest
Hi , I just happen to be about an hour and a half away from Midland Odessa. I was starting to look in Lubbock because I thought that would be the easiest place to find one. I'm actually right in the middle between Lubbock, Abilene. I'll try to get in touch with him. Thank you. Sharon Hello Hello ! With all that is happening in your life, to take the time and notice my little " ya'll " slip, I had to giggle. I've been in Texas for the last 10 or 11 years. Guest guest
Hi Martha, Great news about your boyfriend getting a job. That will help you both out. I am also glad that you are back in physical therapy. Even though it leaves you tired, it is so important to keep our bodies in shape and in good working order, and physical therapy can help you with that. I hope you get good news at your appointments on the 11th and 12th. Let us know how your labs look when you get them back. Have a great day! Guest guest
Hi, I strongly suggest that if you are feeling that ill you should get to an ER. I am not a doctor, but yellow eyes suggests you might be jaundiced which requires a proper medical workup. I'm not saying your life is in danger, but you'd probably feel relieved (if not actually better) to have a doc (other than a GYN) look at you - especially if the appointment with the urologist isn't in the immediate future. Please let us know how it goes. I am very glad you started posting. Guest guest
Thanks for your answers, but I just wanted to know what is considered an emergency in this case? I know what damaged my rgans, I had an infection after my hysterecomy, it lasted6 months, and was in my blood. I was on IV antibiotics I had the cath in my chest and did it at home 3 times a day. I believe the infection hurt my kidneys and they were already weak from 5 preganancys, also my maternal grandmother died of Renal falure I dont know what kind, she was young My mom was16. I know because she was buried on my Moms 16th birthday. Noone new she was in renal falure at all, she just passed out one day at home and never came out of it, terrifying for all of them, they had a huge home and all the kids Cousins and aunts and all lived there with her. They say Im like her, a saint with kids. She was very patient like me, well like I usually am, I feel like I have rabies right now I get mad about everything...lol > Hi, > > I strongly suggest that if you are feeling that ill you should get to an ER. > I am not a doctor, but yellow eyes suggests you might be jaundiced which > requires a proper medical workup. Guest guest
Hi Beth, First, I wanted to welcome you to our group. I am glad you started posting. I didn't read anywhere in your emails about abnormal lab test relating to your kidney function so I am not sure if you have been diagnosed with a biopsy with IgAN, or if the doctors are just guessing kidney problems. It sounds to me like you may have more than one thing going on. Please remember that none of us here are doctors, and we therefore cannot give medical advise, especially what constitutes an emergency. Is there perhaps an advise nurse at the doctors office you can call to ask questions? I would strongly suggest you get perhaps a complete physical and have them check your creatinine level among other things. You may want to have your hematocrit checked too because if you are anemic, it could cause your fatigue. Please let us know what the doctor says. Guest guest
Certainly in the past, like before the 1970's, maybe even 80's in some cases, it was very possible to have some kind of kidney disease that couldn't be diagnosed exactly. My answer to what is considered an emergency is, if you feel it might be, you should go. They can do blood work within an hour and you will know if you're in kidney failure or not. You can read about symptoms at various stages in the Renal Failure Notebook section I've included on www.igan.ca On the other hand, if you think you might just have kidney disease but not kidney failure, it's not necessary to wait for an appointment with a urologist. Kidney failure is an emergency, but kidney disease itself isn't. If it's advanced enough, then you start getting into chronic renal insufficiency, and there could be emergency situations that arise, such as elevated potassium, very high blood pressure, etc. Your family doctor can easily tell by ordinary blood work if you have any sign of renal insufficiency, but it won't be as fast as they can get blood work done at Emergency. In the doctor's office, they can tell via a dipstik test if you have blood and/or protein in your urine, but that doesn't tell them anything about kidney failure. There might be other signs that suggest it on physical examination though. BTW, a urologist deals with problems that arise in the whole urinary tract. A urologist can tell if a problem is in the kidneys (the kidneys are part of the urinary tract), but kidney disease itself is for nephroloigists to deal with. A urologist who finds that there are signs of kidney disease would normally refer you to a nephrologist. And lastly, do what you think you should, but don't rely just on advice you can get on the internet, including from us. Kidney failure is not something you can self-diagnose. Guest guest
Even though that is where your problems began, a urologist or even an internist is a more appropriate first place to get a work up. A starting place is getting blood work done to check for your liver enzymes (not kidney related, but if you are yellow, it would be appropriate) and also for serum creatinine and a urine test to check for blood or protein. From those results, a decision can be made as to where to get your treatment started. Please remember that nothing posted here by any means constitutes medical advise, and that none of us here are doctors, and are therefore not qualified to give medical advise. It is best to call your primary doctor or the urologist and get things going that way. I wish you all the best. Guest guest
Hi, I urge you to get to your doctor or the ER soon. I am not a doc, but being jaundiced and on the verge of passing out qualifies as a medical emergency in my book. I don't mean this in an alarmist sense, but from everything you tell us, it sounds like you need competant care soon.
