Guest guest
I decided last weekend to begin IE again--6 or 7 years ago, I worked hard at following the ideas and lost close to 30 pounds. Tomorrow is my last day of school (I'm a teacher) and I set the first day of vacation as the day I would begin. I can feel myself starting to procrastinate, whispering that maybe I should just wait till Monday...that's a good day to start. Give myself a weekend. Then I laugh ruefully, understanding that I'm undercutting myself as I say I want to change, that I want to lose weight while learning to love my body. I know that before it worked and I was both proud and surprised by the process and my success at it. Why did I stop? Not sure...my husband had a health crisis, my son left for college....familiar patterns crept back. Insight? Suggestions? Anyone nearby to give me a kick to get me moving? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi JJS. the concept of loving your body -- do you find this hard to accept? For instance, I don't think I have a beautiful body because I'm overweight, sagging in parts, etc., and I don't think I'm going to convince myself it's beautiful, but I don't want to work against my body either. I'm not going to hate it by hurting it any longer. I am going to liken myself to the pet dog, ok? :-) (Hey, some people say they like their dogs better than people anyway!) So, let's say someone gave me a doggie that was fat, or arthritic, and I knew it was no good to feed that dog all the scraps from the fatty parts heap, would I do it? Not if I really care about that dog and exercised sound judgment. It took me time to really think about what I was doing. Now it takes less time to think about what I'm feeding myself. When I think about what I'm going to eat now, why would I put unwholesome foods in my body? I'm still thinking about making sure I have foods I really like rather than the quick sweet or greasy foods that are quick or easy to take, or that simply taste good no matter what the price I have to pay. I still have a way to go, but now, at least, I work on thinking a bit before I eat. At first it was hard, it took me maybe one minute to think about it (it was not easy to think new thoughts), tossing ideas around, but now it takes me about 15 seconds. :-) Tai To: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Wednesday, June 8, 2011 10:06 PMSubject: Getting started I decided last weekend to begin IE again--6 or 7 years ago, I worked hard at following the ideas and lost close to 30 pounds.
