I have been on ceftin 250 mg twice a day for 12 days

for a sinus infection. The last 3-4 days my joints

have been screaming with pain. It got worse each day.

Today is awful.

Has anyone else ever been on ceftin? Did you herx with

it?

My joints were on of my first symptoms of SD. It seems

that each herx is different. I herx in reverse order

of the order in which I got my symptoms of

Scleroderma. Could this be the end of SD for me??

Could one hope?

BTW, my ANA has been down to 1:40 for a year now.

(originially up at 1:1280).

I took rifampin for 6 months. I think the nausea is probably a side effect of

the medication. I was having it so bad it was like morning sickness nonstop some

days, and I haven't had it like that since stopping the rifampin. It is a listed

side effect. I hope your nausea clears. Best of luck to you.

Hi ,

It was really interesting reading your post. Somewhere along the line I

developed a horrible gag reflex. Long before I knew I had Lyme, and maybe after

I develped my FMS symptoms. (not sure) But, I had Lyme likely before I became

really sick.

Suddenly, my gag reflex went away, and I'm not sure how long, but maybe a whole

year. I am on new abx now, and its back! Its terrible, just from brushing my

teeth this morning, I ended up dry heaving 6 or 7 times, after I was trying to

be sure to rinse the toothpaste out, etc.

In the past, I would gag everyday when I brushed my teeth. But, there are other

things that bring it on as well; it could be just a conversation about something

that sets it off. I just was thinking it was weird that it was suddenly back.

Do you think this reaction could be in a form of herx?

is not a herx but maybe a side effect of the meds or a bug/something you ate. I

had a lot of nausea during treatment which I think was a combo of the abx and

yeast but I also experienced major nausea and vomiting before I was diagnosed

with Lyme. At the time I thought it was too much thyroid med causing the nausea

but now I know it was Lyme effecting my Vagus nerve which controls the

esophagus. I would gag constantly at the slightest provocation, a smell, image

or sometimes just movement would bring it on. In between these episodes I was

fine and able to eat normally. In any case I just think it sounds like your

nausea is different - getting sick in the middle of the night sounds a lot more

like food poisoning or a virus. I hope it clears up fast!

I thought my gagging was unique! I start to gag when the toothbrush gets

near my mouth. Some days are worse than others with drooling and heaving

over the sink, shaking, eyes watering. It's always worse in the morning.

I've been like this for at least 45 years. I used to miss the school bus

because of this.now I'm 51 and still gagging! My husband said if he had to

endure this every time he brushed his teeth, he would let his teeth fall out

of his mouth.

I don't understand it. I've been muscle tested for all of the components of

various toothpastes, I've tried different brushes, and used baking soda.

Nothing makes this go away. You are the only person that I've heard of with

this problem. I started to think it was an emotional issue because my older

sister backed me into a corner and very angrily scrubbed my teeth when I was

very little. I wasn't interested in grooming then, I just wanted to wake up

and go outside to play.

Maybe I've had Lyme longer than I think???

Thank you for mentioning this.

This is really interesting. I've never heard of this -- but I've also

got the gag reflex from hell. Not as bad as what you're reporting --

brushing my teeth is fine -- but my dentist's staff knows me as that

woman with the big ugly gag reflex. Managing it while I'm in the chair

is a full-time job.

Also: My husband loves his Oral-B sonic toothbrush and offered to give

me my own head for it -- but, even though I know it's a much better

way to go, I cannot imagine putting anything like that in my mouth.

Aieeeee!

I'm manual all the way.

I just wanted to post a follow-up. I saw my Lyme doc on

Friday and she definitely felt that it was the Rifampin

that caused my severe nausea and vomiting. Apparently

it's not an uncommon herx reaction to Rifampin.

Thanks everyone.
