Guest guest
Hi all, I've been practising intuitive eating for around three months now, as best I can and recognise that it is very much a work in progress. Here are some of the changes that I have noticed: - I am cooking most meals at home now (with a focus on whole foods)rather than eating takeaway, chips or chocolate most of the time. I am trying lots of new recipes and ingredients. My insides are working much better now *TMI*. I find I have no desire for takeaway, and when I do have it I always end up thinking that I could have made something much more satisfying at home. - I am beginning to feel more relaxed around food, and less anxious that I will not be able to eat or get enough. As an example of this when I first began I decided that I would always keep a sweet treat in the fridge to combat feelings of deprivation. I cooked up a batch of fudge and religiously had one piece each night with my cup of tea. Recently I cooked up another batch of fudge. I find that I only feel like a piece maybe once every 4-5 days, if that. I've had to freeze most of the batch, and what is left in the fridge may well go off before I eat it all. - I find that I am satisfied with far less food that I used to be. I have accordingly cut down my portion sizes without any angst. - I am learning that I can purchase a large pack of something yummy without fear of eating it all at one sitting. I do help myself with this by trying not to purchase the same items that I used to do that with in the past. - If I do eat too much of something that I previously thought of as " bad " it doesn't seem to be triggering a period of bingeing. I just go back to my new habits at the next meal. I am beginning to fear the food, and my response to it, far less - I am starting to become better at recognising triggers and Pavlov's dog responses. For example there is a certain shopping centre that I would always buy candy at every time I went there. I find that I still get that little tug from habit when I arrive there, and I decided that it was okay to buy something, but I would find the BEST something that I could - a top quality item. I now go to the specialty chocolate shop and spend some time selecting one gourmet chocolate, which I then thoroughly enjoy. - I weigh once a week or fortnight now, as opposed to every day. I am working slowly towards a total ban on the scales but not quite there yet. Each time I weigh now I am becoming much more aware of the feelings and emotions that accompany this action, and can examine them from a distance with less emotional attachment to the outcome. - I have lost a modest amount of weight - far less than I would have in my typical strict dieting phase days. I feel inordinately proud of this as I feel like it is the first time I've ever lost weight the healthy way So that has been my experience. In the past whenever I've cleaned up my habits it has never lasted past the six week mark before I collapse back into a heap of candy wrappers. This time feels very different. It's been three months now and I just don't feel deprived at all. Rowan.

Guest guest
Super! What great strides you have made. I have this one store where I used to buy my chocolate candy bar and now I usually try not to go there too often.. But when I do I can pass up the candy most of the time. I like your idea of picking out the very best and really enjoying it. I just went out to lunch with the ladies for our monthly day out. We went to Red Lobster and I had plain shrimp, broccoli and wild rice. It was very good and I was very full and satisfied. It was nice to order a smaller meal and enjoy it fully.
