Guest guest
Hi, I'm Jane and I'm 48 and the only photo I have of me at a normal weight is my newborn photo. The next one, at about 3 years old, is overweight, and by 4th grade, I was definitely morbidly obese. Naturally, my first diet was in 3rd grade... I've fought the weight endless times. The ONLY time I remember feeling peaceful with food was a month about a decade ago when I was inspired by " The Seven Secrets of Slim People " to try the intuitive eating technique. Unfortunately, after a month I weighed myself and was discouraged by no weight loss and quit. Now I've read several more IE-type books and understand there is a learning curve and I was probably doing fine. I've been focusing on " hungry " and " satisfied " for about a week now, and am very pleased to find this group for some support in learning. Guest guest
Welcome Jane! Its grand to hear that you have read up on non dieting and have some understanding under your belt too. I did a 'start-stop-start' run at this myself and once I committed to this being the way I wanted to go, I indeed got going! My IE journey has not been a straight line to say the least, but overall its been a wonder FULL trip and I certainly would never go 'back'! Weighing one's self is a BIG issue much discussed here. I found that it only distracted me from IE thinking and 99% of the time ended with bad results for me so I totally stopped weighing myself. When I have thought of 'seeing' if I have 'lost weight' I now almost immediately ask myself - what does a number do for me really? Will I feel any better or worse than the reality of what I AM?!? My new criteria that I self measure against is - Am I comfortable? If not, why/where and deal with that - not a number that is more arbitrary and social reflective than what I need for my own health and happiness. BEST to you and looking forward to reading more from you too. Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > Hi, I'm Jane and I'm 48 and the only photo I have of me at a normal weight is my newborn photo.
