Guest guest
For what it's worth, please don't make a decision on what I say. I have spoken to someone who had fantastic success with a fusion. She was in great pain and soon after the surgery was pain free and is to this day, from what she tells me. She has said she was so grateful to this doctor for giving her her life back(to that effect). Anyway, if I knew that a fusion would make me pain free and trusted the doctor, I would do it. Again if you are saying you need the 2 discs removed, why not disc replacement in lieu of fusion? jirvin63 <jeff_irvin@...> wrote: I am new here. After many years of chronic low back, and leg pain I am now making arrangements for a lumbar fusion. A recent discogram revealed that the L-4 L-5 disc is ruptured with an interior tear protruding into the nucleus. L-5 S-1 is bulges and protrusions and upon pressurization proved to be a pain generator. Either IDET L-4 L-5, wait until its healed then another procedure on the lower disc later, or removal of the 2 discs and a lumbar fusion. I am opting for the fusion. Any suggestions, or comments? thanks Jeff
Guest guest
To my understanding an artificial replacement disc is only used at one level. The IDET can only be used on L-4 L-5, then wait app. a year then " neuroplasty " L-5 S-1, altogether taking app. 18 months to 2 years to see if it all worked. The doc that did the discogram suggested an immediate appointment with my neurosurgeon (2 weeks or less) soonest available was 24 days, I took it. After over twenty years of severe pain, phys therapy, traction, injections, stimulation, meds, ect. I want a permanent solution. Modern spinal fusion is reputed to be much better than just a few years ago. My decision has already been made, like your friend.... I want my life back. thanks Jeff > I am new here. > After many years of chronic low back, and leg pain I am now making > arrangements for a lumbar fusion. > A recent discogram revealed that the L-4 L-5 disc is ruptured with an > interior tear protruding into the nucleus. > L-5 S-1 is bulges and protrusions and upon pressurization proved to be > a pain generator. > Either IDET L-4 L-5, wait until its healed then another procedure on > the lower disc later, or removal of the 2 discs and a lumbar fusion. > I am opting for the fusion. > Any suggestions, or comments? > > thanks > > Jeff > > > > > >

Good luck stay in touch, Mark from Boston > > I am new here. > > After many years of chronic low back, and leg pain I am now making > > arrangements for a lumbar fusion. > > A recent discogram revealed that the L-4 L-5 disc is ruptured with > an > > interior tear protruding into the nucleus. > > L-5 S-1 is bulges and protrusions and upon pressurization proved to > be > > a pain generator. > > Either IDET L-4 L-5, wait until its healed then another procedure > on > > the lower disc later, or removal of the 2 discs and a lumbar fusion. > > I am opting for the fusion. > > Any suggestions, or comments? > > > > thanks > > > > Jeff > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Jeff, I don't blame you one bit and think you have made a good decision. I am ignorant to the procedures. If I was told a fusion could be done on me that would take away my pain permanently, I'd jump on it. I wish you the very best and am happy for you. Guest guest
Thanks Masha!! It's been a long road for the past 20 months and after this last one I hope that's it for a while!! it's actually Immort1 for the Immortal 1 thats what my wife keeps suggesting I've become, living with spinal stenosis, fibromyalgia, mylopothy, and another hole in my heart which was fixed when I was eleven and has since re-opened and is causing fluttering as they put it has really sucked! My 5 boys and 2 grand babies and 1 on the way in 3 weeks and a wife only anyone could hope for has kept my mind in one piece. Thanks again for the thoughts they really are heart felt, Mark from Boston - In spinal problems , BLEECKERST10012@... wrote: > > mark, when i wrote asking " irrmort " if they had ever had the surgery i > didn't realize it was you. i have followed your postings religiously and i know > you have been through a lot. i am so glad your fusions have been successful > for you. marsha > > >
