Guest guest
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto on the 27th Dec and was put on 50mcg of Synthroid. Today ive been cold, jittery and feeling very anxious. My heart seems to be raising too. Im waiting on a call from my doctors nurse. I hope its just a reaction to my synthroid and that it can be treated If anyone has any advice please send it my way ........thanks Janis

What tends to happen in the beginning is the body goes through an adjustment period. A quick look at the thyroid cycle and the way it is suppose to work..the thyroid produces thyroid hormone, (T4),the body uses it(T3) and signals the brain it needs more hormone..the brain then signals the thyroid it needs more hormone. ( TSH) You add in Synthroid which is a (T4), the body uses it( T3) and then signals the brain to tell the thyroid to produce more( TSH) except the signal is weaker because your body does not need more because you are adding it in the form of medication..so the brain sends out this weaker signal to the thyroid saying make less hormone and the thyroid does what it is suppose to do..it makes less hormone..then because it is making less hormone your hormone levels actually drop instead of increasing? Hope this makes sense to you..usually when you start on replacement hormone after the first week the levels drop a little..if you read a bit you'll notice a lot feel good for the first week or so then feel rough the start to feel better around the 5 week mark..this is the body adjusting..then at the 6 week mark you do labs and dose change again and repeat cycle until yuor body is at the dose it needs..
