Guest guest
:-)So I was just reading the best way to combat fluoride poisoning is to use iodine. I knew my part of Florida was big in the phosphate industry, and I knew that was not good, but I didn't realize it was the cause of fluoride poisoning. Interesting " Florida " and " Fluoride. " Anyway, we live smack dab in the middle of the phosphate mine county... we don't use fluoridated toothpaste, but our water is not de-fluoridated. I have Lugol's 2%.... start with one drop or one dropperful in a glass of water? For the kids? One drop? (They are 35 and 43 lbs each, my son is losing, my daughter gaining LOL they used to weigh the same)-- Toni------Mind like a steel trap...Rusty and illegal in 37 states. Guest guest
Do you guys who started taking iodine orally or using it in the bath water take the test for iodine deficiency? I kind of ordered Lugol solution and I am still having thoughts about starting slow on my son. Bath tub looks like a safer start? I did not have my son tested. All I know is his TSH (4.270) from 2010. Can I just start with like 1 drop to see how it goes? Ayse
Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, Thanks for that.it is in cap form.MY son is on a vit b complex. We have used the Niacan before but he had a terrible reaction to the form that flushes. Just wondering if the b combo maybe enough. Thank you for your reply Hi , I havent used that product. I am familiar with it tho because several people use it on the iodine group. The pill is adult dosage. Or is it a capsule? So it would have to be split. And it is in time release pill so might want to split the split over 2 or 3 times in a day since once you split it the time release coating is gone. So probably 1/3 to 1/2 a pill (depending on weight) for the entire daily dosage. It takes about 3 grams of it to be liver toxic. I use the Niacin that flushes and B2 seperately. I started at 25mg Niacin and worked up slowly to prevent flushing. I do have a straight niacin preference but many think the other is fine. If your child showed other B deficiency, which is very common, a comprehensive Bvitamin combo might be needed(if they arent eating the equivalent or cant process it normally). Guest guest
Our child's thyroid levels are normal, but I give him the iodine in the bath for two reasons. One, he is in chlorinated water every day for 30-60 minutes. Iodine is used to counter act effects of all that chlorinated water. Two, he drinks the bath water. I shudder to think what may be lurking in our bath water...I give him a little bit of selenium each week and he gets loads of Vit C. Both of these help body to process iodine.Hope this helps.Sent from my iPhone Do you guys who started taking iodine orally or using it in the bath water take the test for iodine deficiency? Guest guest
Having a severe reaction of heavy flushing is a good indicator of Niacin deficiency. Most Niacin pills are too large a dosage to start out with for most. Taking Niacin on a full stomach also helps avoid flushing. How much is in the B Combo? Guest guest
,I advised my children beforehand of the flushing and the symptoms. Perhaps your son is non-verbal, I don't know... but I think we underestimate their receptive skills at times... the other thing you could try is taking one yourself or a social story with pictures. I warned my son and then told him to let me know if he got hot, red, itchy... when he let me know, I took him to the mirror and we laughed about how patchy he was (made a joke out of it, not laughing at him, you know, we turned it into something fun) and so when it happens, he knows it's just for a few minutes and I offer him a drink or other diversion to help (sometimes I just makes stuff up... this morning when he complained, I just asked if he wanted some cool lemonade to help take the heat away?) t 20mg. wow didnt know that it indicated deficency, but we never repeated the flush type as he was so upset and agitated after, scaping at his face etc, have it in the press may try one more time,so hard trying to know what right thing to do,once again thanks Having a severe reaction of heavy flushing is a good indicator of Niacin deficiency. Guest guest
I have only flushed once, it is something i purposely avoided. Been made to fear it. And have avoided since. Not somthing i think i want to experience again. I felt extremely hot, unbearable, like my skin might be coming off. If i went outside in the cold it got lots better, almost pleasant. And the redness was a little funny to see. Funniest/oddest was how warm the butt felt! But its still something i will try to avoid. Very weird, some very unpleasant, sensations. If a child is flusing every day i could see them not wanting to take the stuff. I would also wonder if the dosage was too high or they werent utilizing what they have. Starting the dosage small 12mg on a full stomach shouldnt produce flushing. If it does, start lower. I started at 25mg and have increased slowly (over 2 years) and i space it out 2 to 3 times per day with meals. The time i flushed i thought i had forgotten the niacin with my supps an hour before, so took one and boom! I ate an oatmeal cookie and drank a large glass of water when i knew flushing was happening, that might have helped shoretn it. I could see lemonade helping cause it might empty the stomach. Or dilute the niacin. Cheryl > > >

Guest guest
My son's dose is 25 mg. I have not gone higher because I didn't want his flushing to be unbearable.I flushed this morning but it wasn't as bad as it had been... it felt nice because it was a little chilly this morning LOL I remember the first time niacin had me flush, it was miserable... but the feeling is made better when you know what to expect, that it has an end, and the things you can do to manage it.GABA also sometimes causes an unpleasant flush when I take it. But I do still take it! LOL Cheryl... last night was the first night in a long time that I went to sleep and was sleepy. Not fatigued, not exhausted, JUST sleepy!!!! Today I am doing 10 drops of Lugols!!! I have only flushed once, it is something i purposely avoided. Been made to fear it. And have avoided since. Not somthing i think i want to experience again. Guest guest
I accidentally had a niacin flush once myself. I was really unpleasant; kind of felt like stinging nettle so I don't know I'd want my child going through that. A few weeks ago, I was looking up the benefits of niacin and saw there was a "no flush" version (I think it was called niacinimide or some longer version of niacin??) - is it not as effective or is it the actual flushing of the niacin that makes it work?
