I have a friend who is a psychologist, have been friends for 28 yrs

(which dates me unless we were baby friends). When I told him news

of my thyroid cancer, he said they are trained that when someone

comes in with depression, to get thyroid looked into to look for bio

causes. Problem with me, blood levels kept coming back normal, so

family doc and pdoc didn't think there was thyroid involvement.

Years ago I did go to an internist, looking for bio causes of

depression. He did a thorough job, lots of tests, and it came down

to one thing, a uterine/ovary thing, then that was ruled out. So,

bio causes have been looked into with me. But unfortunately, just

once, long ago.

There's another thing to advise - get a thorough internist type

workup more than once in life. Dang, if only I knew that.

I've been on meds for depression for almost 20 yrs. When all things

thyroid get optimal in me, I look forward to the impact that'll have

on the depression. I'm one of those where life is comes to a halt

without the meds, but I do ok when on them. I think thyroid has

been a part of the depression. Some of my psychotropic meds have

sedative side effects, limiting brain some. I look forward to being

off some of the meds, if not all, by this time next year and having

more of my brain.

  • 2 weeks later...

Don't know, but just throwing out there, that a higher amt of cortisol in the morning may have something to do with that, i.e., maybe better absorption and use of the thyroid hormone at that particular time? Not sure.

Re: Psychoneuroendocronologist for Hypothyroidism

I shall be careful... I actually read Topper's post regarding adrenal support.... so I started with 1/4 tab of it [15mg]. I am still on 90 mgs of Armour and won't be raising it for a few weeks..... I was hoping to get a script for 30mg..so I could cut them in 1/2 and raise it 15 mgs at a time... but the clinic I go to had to reschedule all appointments for last week... So i shall have to wait till this thursday...

Anyway.... I still get a bit of a rush with my first dose of 45mg Armour, but not the second, I wonder why the first and not the second?
