Welcome to the group Ruth. You did the right thing by going and getting it taken care. Please remember that 80% of lumps are not cancerous. Please keep us posted on what you find out. I will keep you in my prayers.

Newbie and concerned

A little history from this newbie.2 weeks ago I noticed that the right nipple was more retracted thanusual and the breast hung down in a rounded way when bending over. Isays to myself, self you can either make an appointment with the gynand he will tell you to go for a mammogram (was a little past dueanyway) or you can get this show on the road. I called and was gottenin for a mammo the next day. Results: campared to pervious mammogram show multiple calcification onthe right. There is no evidence of masses or skin thickening. Thereis retraction of the right nipple.Soooooo, next day in for an ultrasoundResults: shows a solid mass with irregular borders measuring 2.1 cm by2.1 cm. by 1.1 cm. This area has flow within it and appears to havetiny calculi within it. A breast mass is located just behind thenipple. The patient has retraction of the nipple. This has a verysuspicious appearance and would recommend excision with histologicalstudy. Comment: due to the density of the breast this mass, thoughhuge in comparison, is not easily felt on breast exam. Dr. missed it6 months ago and so have I.Yesterday, into the Gyn and now am waiting for an appointment with abreast surgeon for a biopsy. It will not be an excision, at thispoint. This is a large mass. I took a piece of paper and crumpled itup to the demensions listed above. Good grief we are talking about ahuge chunk of my breast which is very small and dense. That mass isnot coming out unless the biopsy is positive!Would appreciate any feed back you lovely folks are willing to give.Distressed in NY (Ruth)

dear ruth ny make sure you read the biopsy report yourself.the majority of doctors today do not consider pre-cancerous cells or mass for that matter actual cancer and will wait till it is.i found this out the hard way. my doctor told me i was perfectly healthy 40 yr old.that was after a breast exam, mamogram,an 2 very painfull biopsy's at womans heath care cancer center.he had the report in front of him read it to me but left out the part that said i was diagnosed w/pre-cancerous cells an mass.he did suggest i see a surgean, and have another biopsy done.i figured i was healthy why go? my fieance an dad convinced me to go,i did boy, was i shocked to find out the truth.this new dr.showed me the same report my dr.had read to me an explained to me that at least 60 % of the family phy.drs.won't tell you that you have any form of cancer if you are diognosed as pre-cancerous.it's really hard to try to explain but i'm hoping you understand

my meaning here, Please for your sake read that report Yourself don't let them read it to you. I've been thru 18 months of hell because of one doctors screw up an his own beliefs. I've gone thru a double mastectomy ,complete reconstuctive surgery and am going thru 2 more precedures yet.but i am cancer free.thanks to 2 different great cancer doctors.( i was a 38c cup now i'm a 36b cup my choice to go smaller ) i have 4 children to think about my thoughts were on them every step of the way,i decided i had cancer but it wouldn't take me.i've won so far. The best of luck to you my thoughts are with you.you'll come out fine just keep a positive attitude an keep your head up an you'll do just great. a friend in pa. helenruthiema36 wrote: A little history from this newbie.2 weeks ago I noticed that the right nipple was more retracted thanusual and the breast hung down in a rounded way when bending over. Helen,

Thank you so much for the very good advice. I have copies of the

mammogram and ultrasound reports in my hot little hand, at this very

moment. Rest assured I will have a copy of the biopsy report, also,

once it is done. I am waiting for the surgeons office to call with an

appointment. If they have not gotten in touch with me by tomorrow, I

will call them. The 2 reports, I already have, are suspicious and the

radiologist has suggested removal of the mass. I am opting to have it

biopsied before that is done. The waiting is driving me crazy! I have

a feeling this mass has been around for awhile and didn't show up on

the mammogram, as my breasts are dense. I should have been demanding

ultrasound in addition to mammography. I am so mad at myself. I knew

mammograms are not as reliable on dense tissue.

I am so sorry for all you have been through. You are one brave,

couragous lady and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Ruth: I'm not sure I can help; but for what it's worth...I am, thank the Lord, a 10yr. survivor; and, I've gone through everything you have, the doubts, worries and concerns; I consider myself to be lucky to be given a second chance in life...to battle cancer, to lose those I love to it, and then to go on. Cancer, in a form of one way or another, is a building block in life to help you live in a better way. This may all sound difficult to accept; and I, like all of us in this site, can help you, as I try to help myself, deal with all that is dealt to you:)helen styno wrote: dear ruth ny make sure you read the biopsy report yourself.the majority of doctors today do not consider pre-cancerous cells or mass for that matter actual cancer and will wait

Hello, Yes, I guess you can look at it as a God thing to appreciate life. I guess 1 out of 3 people will have some type of cancer. Scary. I believe it is our lifestyles, what we eat the air we breathe etc. Now we have to worry about bird flu! I felt lucky and glad I was aware of how important to get check ups.
