Guest guest
Yay !I also found that I had to eliminate " gossip " type magazines, People and the like, because the flaunting of an unattainable ideal, for me, kept me mired in diet mentality. A nice side benefit to my wallet as well!Best,Abby I love that 'logic' ! A New Years resolution to NOT diet! Guest guest
Ever notice that on the cover of those magazines are " diet rules " and a picture of a great big piece of cake. I never could quite figure that out. Sandy First, I want to thank everyone for their ongoing support and sharing. I so value this group as I and we work towards IE in our lives! I thought I would mention that one way I am supporting myself this year is eliminating all of these " women's health " magazines in my life. They all are an unending advertisement for diet mentality, as we know! I previously had subscribed to @ 4 different magazines...eliminated a couple last year and then kept a couple that I thought related to " exercise " ....only to see them again for what they were...DIET POLICE. It's been great fun recycling, dismissing, and eliminating yet another source of diet mentality. I particularly have enjoyed the timing of it....as others seeks to " start the new diet, " I am relishing expiring the very idea! LOL! Guest guest
This is HUGE to me. I find myself cringing at the checkout counter when I see all the near-anorexic stars striking sexy poses next to diet-related headlines. Not b/c I want to be like them anymore, but b/c I wonder how many thousands of women have looked at that particular magazine and started yet another self-defeating mental script. Thankfully, IE has left me with no reason to even skim the headlines anymore in search of a new diet or dieting tip! > > First, I want to thank everyone for their ongoing support and sharing. Guest guest
Way to go, ! Good job!I have so often bought those magazines staring at me from the impulse rack at the checkout counter. They always have some hot new diet on the cover, "Lose X pounds by whatever holiday is upcoming!!! New diet is all the rage in Europe or California!" In one particular magazine I don't have to search for the article, I know it's always on about page 18 or 20. And you know what?? Whatever fruit, enzyme, vitamin, soup, etc., is supposed to be the magic key to the diet's success, the rest of it is always 3 commonsense meals and 2 snacks. I think I'll start putting the price of a magazine in my savings account every time I pass one up because I don't need it anymore :-)Ellie I thought I would mention that one way I am supporting myself this year is eliminating all of these "women's health" magazines in my life.
