hi. i have a question, and i hope someone can help.

i have recently started taking fenugreek to help my supply. i'm also recently feeling very headachey and nausous (sp?). are these related? should i stop taking the fenugreek? i haven't taken any yet today, but i don't feel any different.

thanks in advance.

I don't know for sure but I doubt that it's related. I took fenugreek for a week or so with absolutely no side effects (except smelling like maple! LOL)

,

You could be allergic to it. I don't think it has a lot of side effects, unless you are sensitive to it.

I don't know but I have found that I can only take it for a few days. I get

a great increase in my output and get the maply smell very quickly but if I

persist in taking it even as briefly as a week I get very ill....vomiting,

diarrhea and terrible stomach cramps. But it works fine as long as I don't

take it too long. I only take 3 tabs a day too to get that effect which is a

lot less than is usually recommended I think.

I know how it feels to get " maply " so quickly. I was surprised by it because

the literature had suggested it would take more caps and longer to happen.

Guess you and I are just different..LOL

I use it periodically when I go through a " Oh no I don't think I have enough

milk " phase but not sure whether I really need to or not. Holly seems happy

enough but it has more to do with my perception of my supply. Also helps to

get a bit of a freezer stash going from time to time. I will have to take

some more next week after we move because I will lose my freezer stash of

milk..:((

Glad you feel better.

The Centers for Disease Control and virtually all immunization clinics will

tell you that all FDA approved vaccines are safe for breastfeeding mothers.

I'm hoping someone here has the weblinks on hand to share with you about

vaccines though. It would be a tough call for me to make... Lock-jaw is

pretty serious, and you could die from it. However, the odds that you'll

develop this aren't high since you've had the vaccine previously in your

life. I'd be asking my doctor how long after symptoms develop could I get

the vaccine or a detox serum.... lol But that's just me! :D

I hate to give any type of medical advice, so please just take this as

information that you should verify on your own before making any decisions.

Tetanus is extremely rare due to wound hygiene, it cannot live in a clean,

oxygenated environment (that's why puncture wounds are dangerous). The wound

should be kept clean and allowed to " breathe " .

Here is a link to the vaccine debate board at babycenter. This particular thread

has several informative posts about the tetanus vaccine.

**Also, the FDA just seized a warehouse full of tetanus and diphtheria vaccines

(and antihistamines) after the manufacturer (Wyeth) had been sited " several "

times for non-compliance with agency manufacturing standards. The problem with

this - as I see - is that there has been no recall announced.

Anyway - Here's the story from the Philly Inquirer

Friday, June 16, 2000

The action followed repeated warnings that the Marietta,

Pa., plant was not in compliance with agency standards.

By Warner INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

After repeated warnings,

the U.S. Food and Drug Administration yesterday seized

thousands of preloaded syringes manufactured by

Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories at its Lancaster County plant.

The drugs seized were

vaccines for tetanus and diphtheria, and antihistamines.

The syringes were seized

at a warehouse in Vonore, Tenn., after the FDA

complained in U.S. District Court that the drugs were

not made in compliance with the agency’s manufacturing

standards.

FDA spokesman Larry

Bachorik declined to comment on whether people who used

these drugs were at risk.

“In general, a failure

to follow good manufacturing practices does not

automatically translate into bad patient outcomes,” he

said. “But it does mean we can’t have as much confidence

in the overall quality of the product.”

Wyeth spokesman Doug

Petkus said that for several months the Marietta, Pa.,

plant has been undergoing “substantial improvements”

following earlier FDA concerns. During that time, he

said, the facility has not produced drugs for shipment.

“We are discussing with

the regulatory authorities the nature and scope of their

concerns,” he said.

Last year, the FDA’s

Office of Regulatory Affairs initiated 25 seizures

similar to yesterday’s action.

Wyeth-Ayerst, a division

of American Home Products Corp. headquartered in St.

s, has experienced other regulatory problems in

recent years. In 1997 it withdrew its obesity drugs

Redux and Pondimon, which were part of the “fen-phen”

combination, after some patients developed heart

problems.

Last year, the company

recalled 600,000 allergy kits made in West Chester, and

withdrew a vaccine for rotavirus after some children

developed dangerous bowel obstructions.

Bob Kirby, a drug

analyst with in St. Louis, said yesterday’s

seizure did not raise immediate concerns for American

Home.

“None of these drugs are

really major,” Kirby said. “The bigger question is

whether there is an underlying problem in manufacturing

and quality control.”

seizure did not raise immediate concerns for American

Home.

“None of these drugs are

really major,” Kirby said. “The bigger question is

whether there is an underlying problem in manufacturing

and quality control.”

I was vaccinated when my dd was 5 months old (yes she was nursing) because I was starting a dayhome and I needed my booster shots. I think you should get it if you are overdue for the tetnus.

That's about how long I made it as well. Hehe. The one thing I am doing

though is USUALLY eating things that are still soft. ie. refried beans,

yogurt, soups, etc. Also I have things that are crunchy but turn really

mushy such as wheat crackers. I've had little problems swallowing other

than when I'm taking a bunch of pills in a row and I take them too fast.

All I can suggest is smaller bites. I hear it does get better, but at first

you really need to focus on small, well chewed bites.

question

I don't want you guys to yell at me but I switched over to real food

2 weeks and 2 days out from surgery. I just couldn't take it anymore.

I was crying constantly and felt emotionally deprived. Anyway, I have

done really well with 5 out of 6 meals but my last meal keeps getting

lodged in my throat. I ended up throwing up both of them saturday and

sunday. My question is this... how come before my surgery I could

swallow half a cheese burger practically hole and it didn't affect my

esophogus and now a but that is the size of a dime feels like I

swallowed my fist. HOw long does this last? That is the only problem

I seem to have. Believe me when I say that I am chewing my food

completely and thoroughly.

Oh and by the way THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for your speedy

responses to the sex thing! Oh by the way Mike thanks you too :) !!
