Guest guest
, I can't remember exactly, but I want to say when I learned of my surgery date, I knew then, but more towards the day, they did alter it by a 1/2 hour or something. Dawn Question When did you find out what time your operation was? I won't know until a week before and then that is only a maybe. I won't really know until around 3:00pm the day before. That doesn't give me much time seens I live an hour away from the hospital and if I have to be there at 6:00 am. I will have to find a babysitter for the night and next day. If it is an early afternoon then I will only need one for the day.

Guest guest
Hi Jane, I know from experience, if you don't eat enough, drink the liquids, and exercise, the weight sorta sticks a bit longer....I know it's hard eating solids for you, but I would suggest this is the time for high protein drinks for you, continue with the water, and exercise as much as possible. Once you're able to eat more, you will get moving again! Hang in there! Dawn question HI everyone as you prolly know Ihave been sorta sick now for about 6 weeks,,with the stoma closing, 3 dilitations..and one more to come....I have lost 42 lbs (which occured inthe first 4 weeks, I am now 7 weeks PO) I am on a dreaded plateau...and have no idea how to get this jump started again....I can eat small amounts of protien....but maybe not enough? not sure....any ideas? I have just recently began to exercise..as I did not have the energy to do anything before....thanks for any ideas....mary jane

That way you have more of a chance of not becoming diabetic because they would be able to harvest more islet cells. You have to admit that by the time we get diagnosed a lot of us are already having daily pain and nutrition problems. When I wrote to Dr. Sutherland I told him about all the doctors saying there was nothing that could be done for me. His response was wonderful. He told me to hang on because he knew he could help me!! I am in the process of trying to get ins. approval for the surgery. I don't feel like there is anything else that would be worth it for me and I don't feel like I have anything to lose (except the intractable pain). Hope your evening goes well. Guest guest
Tom, those symptoms are fairly similar to mine, only you can add lots of bad gas to it and I have pain in the same spot, plus others.I have been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. I also have pain in the middle just under the rib cage. I also have pain on the left and the right side too. My doctor told me that the middle pain is the head of the pancreas and the side pains were the tail, which can move about, which is why it hits both sides. There are other tests that can be done to check the pancreas besides a catscan. An ERCP can diagnose it and so can a tripsynogen test (I think I misspelled that). I also wanted to welcome you to our group. Chronic pancreatitis is hard to diagnose, but at least the doctor isn't ignoring it as a possibility. I'm the California State Chapter representative, so if you need anything, please let me know. you can get ahold of me in the evenings at hominid2@... and in the day at kimber.allen@.... Sorry I didn't get to this earlier, but I was taking the weekend off the computer. Kimber -- Kimber hominid2@... Guest guest
Thanks much. In two days on this list serve I've gotten more information than I have in 6 months from my doctor and other internet sites. Wish I could have found it some time ago. You and others have given me some suggestions to take back to the doc and will post whatever happens. Thanks again. Guest guest
Tom, do let us know. Also, if you need a referral I know a really good doctor who deals with pancreatitis in UCSF. He diagnosed mine. Or even if your doctor wants to pick his brain for ideas he's a good one to contact. My current doctor is keeping in contact with him to help with my case since he's the expert AND a doctor familiar with my case. His name is Dr. Cello and he works at UCSF and SF General Hospital in the Gastroenterology department. Again, if you need anything, please feel free to contact me directly anytime, not just through this group. As part of my duties, I am here to help YOU with anything you need, whether it's just to talk or to find specific information, education, etc. By the way, I'm in Vallejo, CA. Guest guest
ka, I wanted to welcome you. Also, I see you said you saw every specialist at UCSF, does that mean you are in California too, in the SF Bay Area? I'm in Vallejo. I'm also the California state representative, so that means I'm here to help YOU with anything you need. I can be reached in the evenings at hominid2@... and in the daytime (7-4pm) at kimber.allen@.... Please feel free to contact me directly at either, not just through the group. If you need anything, just to talk, to exchange information, request information, education, etc., just let me know and I'll do my best to do it. If you are in the SF Bay Area, you'll be my first member other than myself in that Area, plus the third in Northern California. All the other California members are in Southern California. Sorry about the long email, but I'm excited about having someone else so near me. Let me know where you at and if you need anything. If you're close enough so that long distance charges don't apply, I'll give you my cellphone number as well. I have unlimited evening and weekend hours. I've been suffering from acute pancreatitis since 1986 and was finally diagnosed as chronic in 1997. I have a pancreatic divisum (divided pancreatic ducts) and they think I've been having problems off and on since I was a kid. Look forward to getting to know more about you. Guest guest
Tom, glad to be of some help. Also nice to hear from someone who's familiar with my location. Most of the CA members have been in the Southern CA area, so it's nice to hear from someone in Northern CA. I've only been in Vallejo for about 3 or 4 years. I used to be in San and area before that. Vallejo's growing up slowly. If you're looking for any information, let me know and I'll see what i can find. I have two 3 inch binders full of tons of stuff I've gotten off the web. You might also want to look at the Hopkin's GI website. It's got everything on both acute pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis and might be of some help to the doctor too. http://hopkins-gi.org/subspecialties/acutepancreas/diagnosis.htm http://hopkins-gi.org/subspecialties/chronic/introduction/symptoms.htm I've printout the whole site and stuck in in my binder and periodically go back to it to see if anything additional has been added.
