Guest guest
Lulu, I think everyone here can identify with wanting to stop struggling wth weight and having put life on hold until the day weight was lost. But when that day came for me, and it has several times in my life, I could not hold onto the thinness. When I began this journey, I did enjoy eating, but I felt guilty when I thought I should not be eating what I was eating, so the pleasure was short-lived as I ate very fast. Because I had spent a lifetime either severely restricting or eating a diet of total junk, I also felt I dd not know what to eat, and never felt hungry or full. So I began with a nutritionist, who happened to lend me a book on eating according to appetite, which I devoured. The nutritionst told me how much of certain nutrients a typical woman needs daily, and that eating a combination of carbs, fats, and protein would keep me satisfied for several hours. Since I had no feeling of fullness unless I ate a tremendous amount, I divided the totals she'd given me by 4, ate that amount of what I wanted in those categories 4 times a day when I got hungry, and stopped when I was finished. I had to go through a little withdrawal every meal as I wanted more, but once that passed, I was truly satisfied for several hours. Then I waited until I felt stomach hunger pangs and ate again. For me, it worked like a charm to help me learn what I needed and wanted to eat, and when I felt hungry and full. Now I'm pretty good at eating when I'm hungry, knowing what to eat (which must also be something I'm hungry for), and when I'm satisfied. Being satsfied for me is when I am not aware of my stomach being there, just as I am not aware of my elbow or any other body part unless I bump it, and I feel energetic and alert. However, this is probably not the way most people here start. There are several books to read, and the people on this blog are very supportive when you have questions or struggles. Have you read the Intuitive Eating book? Sara > > I have been on a sugar binge since the holidays. Overeating and then restricting . I dont get hunger or fullness cues. I could eat an apple and feel stuffed. I dont even know what foods I enjoy anymore. I was with my sister shopping today and she happened to talk about a food she loves. You could hear her appreciation and enjoyment. I thought: I dont feel that way about any food. I just get into binge mode and it doesnt matter. I realised I am grieving over my loss of taste appreciation and enjoyment in eating. > I am just tired of the way I feel, the way I look, and the way I eat. Maybe this is all part of starting this ie journey? Is this common in the beginning. > I feel lost and dont know where to start... > > Lulu >
