Sara,

I too was surprised by how IE spilled over into self-care in other areas too. I

am learning to see the beauty my husband sees in my body. I am resuming wearing

make-up when I'm going out, because I feel perkier when I see myself in the

mirror. I'm choosing to exercise for fun more often, as opposed to as a weight

control (ha, talk about ineffective) device. But number one is taking care of

myself more emotionally and feeling responsible for that, especially right now,

during an intense family crisis. And that includes asking for the help I need

from my church family, accepting it, and feeling no guilt, knowing I would want

to be there for them if they were going through something so overwhelming. And

amazingly enough, I am not overeating through this and hardly spare a thought

for food. When my toddler asked to eat, I realized I was caving in, although I

hadn't noticed during a series of stressful phone calls. I cooked a quick meal

and ate, without any particular interest. In the past, trauma brought on

emotional overeating, without fail, and significant weight gain. So I feel like

something significant has changed in how I relate to myself and the world, only

7 weeks into IE.
