Guest guest
Your 'all or nothing' expectations are causing you to make IE a pseudo diet? That's not uncommon at first since dieting is what you know (and dislike). What I would like to offer as something for you to turn your attention over to is - how can you fail yourself?!? Only if you use what others measure as your worth and value. Dieting tells you not to trust yourself while IE encourages that. Eating and food are only the visible actions of that trust. I'm not a big mantra type person, but I can't help but wonder how you would feel if you began from a point of re-claiming your self trust and love the person you ARE first, then 'feed' that person as if you were caring for a much beloved ill friend. Compassion gets us a lot further than demands and unrealistic, unwanted expectations. BEST to you and please do keep posting. Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I just can't seem to do this for some reason. I tend to have a very all or nothing attitude. When I'm dieting, I have to do it perfectly or I " fail " . When I'm " not dieting " , I completely don't diet. I love the IE concept, but I find myself eating everything all of the time. I can't seem to wait until I'm hungry, and I definitely can't stop when I'm full. It's almost like I'm sad when I'm done eating something. However, I don't really enjoy anything I eat. I have been trying to do this for over a year, and have gained quite a bit of weight. I want to do this so badly, but am incredibly discouraged at this point!! >
Guest guest
I also have had a lot of trouble stopping with full, though I do better with waiting until I'm hungry. Waiting until I'm hungry helps with stopping when I'm full, because I can never get enough of what I'm not hungry for. If I'm physically hungry, then I will eventually lose those hunger pangs when I start eating. There is also a difference between full and satisfied. I did take a half-step into intuitive eating by using a nutritionist to tell me what an average woman of my age needs daily as far as nutrients. She encouraged me to eat what I like to eat, wanted to eat, but in a nutritional balance. She taught me how various nutrients affect my satiety and how to stay satisfied between fairly regular meals. When I began to eat the amounts she suggested of the foods I was hungry for and when I was hungry, I began to learn what if felt to feel satisfied. Initially, I had to pull myself away, but after nearly a year, I eat those amounts and am satisfied usually. As time goes on, I'm learning to vary that a little according to whether my body feels the need for more or less. > > I just can't seem to do this for some reason. Guest guest
Wow, I relate to everything you said. Everything. I mean, every single statement. I never heard anyone else describe that sad feeling. I'm sad when the food is gone b/c I would have liked to eat more, even though I'm more than full. Also, if I recognize I'm full before the food is gone, I'm sad and disappointed to think about stopping because I wanted to eat it.Something that sometimes helps me is thinking about how I take, say, Tylenol. I have a headache. I take a couple Tylenol tablets. After I swallow them I still have the headache. But I don't keep taking more pills until the bottle is empty and then start hitting on the Advil. I took what I needed and know it will take awhile for it to work. This has helped me with food issues. It's not exactly the same, but it's close. I don't have to keep on eating food.... if I stop, I might still want more, but it will settle down after awhile.Hope this makes sense :-)Ellie To: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Saturday, November 26, 2011 10:13 AM Subject: Can't seem to do this!!
