Guest guest
What a wonderful confirmation for yourself Tilley. Bravo for doing this at your own time and pace. I stopped using my scale years ago now and smile every time I see it needs dusting due to lack of use. Numbers who needs any stinking numbers? lol Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I know I said I was going to do this a long time ago, but I didn't, because I was scared to, but I finally did, about a month ago, and the results have been most interesting. I was really really scared that I was gaining weight because I wasn't weighing myself every day, and I think I was, because my new pants are snugger, but I realized that I was using the scale for outside confirmation of what I was doing. Eat a lot of salty junk food? The scale will be up a couple pounds. Eat healthier foods, the scale will be down a couple pounds. Why did I need a scale to tell me that? > > Lately I've been having really wicked headaches that I think are somehow related to too much salt (they feel like when I periodically stop taking the diuretic that I take for an inner ear disorder, mot see if I can get along without it), and I've been craving more vegetables, and not wanting anything salty, and then one day I woke up feeling great, and my first thought was, I bet the scale will finally be down a couple pounds, and then I realized what a stupid thought that was. So what? I feel great. I don't need a number to tell me anything. Did I ever weigh myself once as a child? No. I don't remember us even having a scale. I don't need a scale to tell me when I'm being good to my body and when I'm not; I can just consult my body. > > It's still a little scary for me, but I've said I'll give it a year. So many of you said to ditch it, and now I have. It's taken me awhile to accept that this really probably is better. > > Tilley >
Guest guest
I'm fairly new to IE and have been lurking for a couple of weeks, but decided that I needed to reply. Tilley...I really resonate with all that you said in your message. I too tend to use the scale as confirmation of what I already know. I come from many years of dieting and heavily relying on the scale to determine my worth and value. Since beginning my attempt at IE a couple weeks ago, I have noticed that there have been days that I feel thinner and really good and I want to step on the scale to see what the number says. What I've found is that when it hasn't gone down, I'm disappointed. I will commit today to take my scale and put it back in storage. That step will be much easier for me that tossing it completely. It'll be at least May before I empty the storage unit, so I'll have some space and time to let it go. My desire is to be completely free of that ball and chain. Thanks, everyone for being here and allowing me to " listen " in on your conversations...I've learned a great deal. Malene
