Guest guest
Hi. First, it feels like you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself to feel the same way about water that you did during your dieting days ("it's important to love water."). Start from where you are without judgment. You are finding it harder to like water these days. OK. You may be getting enough water during the day in your food and with other beverages, so it may not even be a problem. However, if you are finding that you're thirsty but do not want to drink because of the taste, there are several things you can do. How about putting a slice of lemon, lime, or other fruit into a bottle to give it some flavor? You could also make a pitcher of weak iced tea or dilute some fruit juice with a pitcher of water. I'm sure there are a lot more ideas out there. Experiment and find what you like. Good luck! Mimi Subject: Do I Hate water???To: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Thursday, January 12, 2012, 10:49 AM Hey everyone... something strange has happened since I have been discovering what I really like to eat (and drink). I think I don't like water. OMG. In my diet days I gulped it down like a camel, like 12 cups a day. Whn I drink water I literally make a face, it tastes so weird. I'm really upset about this because I think water is amazing and it's important to love it. The problem is that often at night I am thirsty but dont want to drink water so I end up eating because I dont feel that sense of completeness that u get after drinking water after your meal. What should I do? Could it be I dont like the taste of the water where I live? I use a Brita pitcher to filter... May be I should start buying bottled water? But so expensive... but the bottled water tastes better to me.

Guest guest
I've never been a huge water drinker myself - probably 'cuz that wasn't a practice by example or practice in my family. I even had a very nasty experience with trying to hydrate myself before a medical procedure which made me distrust drinking water even more. However reading that often thirst can be mistaken for hunger (food containing moisture can be a driver to eat when one is really thirsty) I wanted to give water another try. I have managed to make peace with plain water, but I continue to prefer other forms (flavors) in supplying my body with needed moisture. It seems to me that some of my mis-thoughts about water stem from diet mentality where water is often used as either a 'have to drink' or tricking device in an attempt to fool hunger signals. The hardest thing for me was to rediscover my own INternal moisture signals instead of relying on any shoulds that I hold onto from diet type thinking. Keep at your own discovering! Guest guest
I like to make herbal (uncaffeinated) ice teas -- just heat the kettle and make a big container of fruity tea like raspberry, blueberry acai, or chamomile. i add a tiny bit of raw honey while it's still hot (a teaspoon or so, just enough to barely taste it) and then pour it into a re-purposed glass milk jug in the fridge. although i don't hate water, i find i drink a lot more when there's a taste to it, which is important as i am breastfeeding and need to drink a lot.best, abby  hi paddy- do you mean squash like zucchini?? Guest guest
Yes, I do think the obsession with water is a leftover from the dieting days. I remember hearing dire warnings such as, "by the time you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated!" Isn't that similar to saying that by the time you are hungry, you are already starving? That just doesn't sound right to me. Recently, I have been reading that the moisture in food and beverages (plain water and other drinks) that one drinks in a day is adequate for most people. That sounds more natural than forcing down glass after glass of water. Guest guest
Around these parts we can buy filtered water by the gallon for 39 cents (29 at the co-op). Most major grocery stores have water filters and you can fill your own jugs. I'm in Washingotn State. Guest guest
Maybe your filter needs to be replaced. Try experimenting with drinking it at different temperatures or add some lemon, lime, mint or fruit (berries, an orange or apple slice etc) for flavor. Guest guest
I can't drink the water where I live, so I got a filter for the faucet and tried a pitcher too. Both were ok but $. I'm not sure if bottled water is better. Some of the super markets have a dispenser to refill your own bottles. Cheaper. I have tried adding a little lemon, or orange or lime and that's pretty good. But I really like water, just not the water in my town.
Guest guest
it's funny because I was always told- drink 2 glasses before a meal, will make you fuller faster. however, water before a meal does nothing for me, and in fact makes me slightly nauseous... now that i do IE, I find that I am most thirsty after a meal. So Since I wasnt liking water, I found that I ended up having junk or other foods--eating due to thirst! Thats not eating due to hunger. anyway today in Target a bought a "bobble" its a cute water bottle with a filter attached, so everything you drink gets filtered. I have a Brita; thats what we all drink, but this Bobble makes the water way better! Im so happy! Also since I am breastfeeding, if I don't drink, my baby doesnt have enough milk, so i really do have to force myself.. but i will also be trying everyone's tea suggestions, fruit, splash of juice, etc sima To: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Thursday, January 12, 2012 8:54 PMSubject: Re: Do I Hate water??? Is it possible that this is your body/brain rebelling against all those years of being told to fill up on water so you wouldn't eat too much? Abby I can't drink the water where I live, so I got a filter for the faucet and tried a pitcher too. Both were ok but $. I'm not sure if bottled water is better. Some of the super markets have a dispenser to refill your own bottles. Cheaper. I have tried adding a little lemon, or orange or lime and that's pretty good. But I really like water, just not the water in my town. Sandy Hey everyone... something strange has happened since I have been discovering what I really like to eat (and drink). I think I don't like water. OMG. In my diet days I gulped it down like a camel, like 12 cups a day. Whn I drink water I literally make a face, it tastes so weird.
