Guest guest
I agree with Ellen; my son has had 3 MRIs and has been sedated for each. He did quite well with the sedation. It's kind of an all-day affair, though. NPO after a certain time, go to bed late-wake up early...all the same protocol as if he were having surgery. MRI is a little different from the CT from a patient standpoint in that it is much more claustrophobic. You are put on a table and slid into a machine completely (the foot area is open, but the " tunnel " is only a few inches from your face). There are lots of flashing lights and loud noises. I have had it done as well and even I started to get a little panicky, mostly because it was contrast and I had previously had a horrible CT scan contrast experience and I was nervously anticipating that (they used a different medium, though, thank God). The whole process takes about an hour and the recovery is about 1-2 hours. was a little combative and grouchy when he woke up, but he was wired to so much stuff he just wanted it off. I was thankful for the MRI, though, because it was from this that he was finally diagnosed with periventricular leukomalacia (cerebral palsy) which was previously undetectable on CT scans. I hope everything goes okay for Mark!
