Guest guest
Welcome . I think you could find that this group could be a great place for you to get going on your own IE journey. I have some Al-Anon, dysfunctional family and other non-dieting history too which I have found to be helpful in my IE efforts. Regarding 'where to start' - just being here is good! Read posts, ask questions and say what it is YOU have to say about eating, how you feel about yourself, whine if necessary and for sure bragging is allowed too. We all get a smile when another member posts a GOT IT! It often helps a lot if you simply pick ONE suggestion to give a go at and remember to be gentle with yourself and expectations too. None of us got here overnight and reversing the input from years of the battle of the bulge type thinking is more a surefire way to get you back into that fight than to rise above and escape that negative, not working practice. BEST to you, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > He everyone happy holidays !! I have had 30 years of dieting. I bought the book IE read it and now feel depressed and I just don't know what is happening to me . Diet high is gone and I feel fat and don't want to exercise . Guest guest
Hey , I reflect a lot on how complicated something as simple as IE is to get hold of. My brain wants to make a thousand rules and working a program that isn't a program is confounding. I had to let go one day at a time - and am still letting go of old thinking as it reveales itself. I've written long posts on OA as have others, you might want to do a search on them. I don't feel that counseling will help much at first, especially since most counselors aren't apt to be IE savvy and might tend to lead someone in the wrong direction. But that's jsut me I tend to think our culture relies too much on counseling and too little on learning self reliance. The difficulty with IE is finding self trust including trust in the body - and moving away from experts on the issue of food and weight. Being AA might complicate the journey more as AA focuses on abstinence and IE is about learning to live peacefully with food - which does not mean eating everything in sight. The thinking in IE seems very paradoxical initially and I still find it difficult to explain to people what IE is about. It's scary to jump in and continue because we've been taught that we can't trust ourselves around food and because we're used to eating by rules and plans. And there will undoubtedly be the dreaded weight gain as one flounders to internalize a sense of " this works, this doesn't " around food. But it's all very humanizing; I feel much more peace in my life over all which comes through learning to be more in touch with and more truly honest with myself. Find your own first steps; which might be eating only when hungry or might be legalizing, or some other piece to begin the sense of truly moving forward. Best of luck. Guest guest
Hi, ! You know, I didn't think of this until I read your post, but I just realized if we've been dieting most of our lives and then decide not to anymore, we're kind of saying goodbye to a part of ourselves. And we wonder how to fill the hole that leaves in our lives. If food planning, food avoidance, food obsession have been in large part defining us.... what's left if that stops? Yes, it can be depressing, and if others are talking about how free and happy they feel, it can leave us wondering what's wrong with us. I think nothing is wrong... different people respond in different ways.Your AA program is strong. Have you talked with your sponsor about the change in your approach to food and how this gap affects you? You mention size 8 or 10 -- your current or wished-for sizes? You are not alone, and maybe that in itself can help. I feel as if I no longer know how or what to eat.... since I can have everything, I'm half-afraid to eat anything.
