Guest guest
Ouch! You brought back memories. I used that shield thing that you have the baby latch on to. I would start him off on that then after a few minutes I would take it off and put him back on without it. Some people like that thing and some people hate it but it was a BF relationship saver for us. Micki
Guest guest
Jen, 1. Don't let Abby nurse unless she latches on correctly. See a l/c or LLL leader for help with this if you can. 2. Try different holds to find the one that is least painful. 3. Nurse on the least painful breast first. (if one is less painful than the other.) 4. Get checked for Thrush. 5. Take acetaminophen and/or ibuprofen (Tylenol or Motrin) for pain (per package instructions). This will help your discomfort level and may take a while. Guest guest
Jen, If you tell me where you are I can refer you to a La Leche League leader who might be able to help you correct the latch. Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources Pain Hi all. Abby is accepting the breast anytime I offer it now which is great. However I am in terrible pain. I've got these purple bumps on my nipples...sort of like blood blisters or bruises. Is there anything I can do? Or anyone experience this and know what we are doing wrong? After I finish nursing her I'm still in stinging pain an hour + later. I think its incorrect latch because my nipple isnt regular shaped after she's finished and sometimes its white. We gradually went from not nursing at all to nursing between 3-4 times a day. I pump the rest of the time and it doesnt hurt when or after I pump. -Jen -------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.TheElliotts.org CUR #153 ICQ#875060 I was born Creative, not Patient. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Best friends, most artistic, class clown Find 'em here: http://click./1/5543/0/_/410002/_/962028537/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Give the Gift of Life Breastfeed! http://www.lactivist.com

Guest guest
Micki, Nipple shields can be a bfing saver but I suggest that women only use them if they are consulting with a Lactation Consultant as some babies will completely refuse the breast after using them and it can be difficult to wean off them. Guest guest
I used nipple shields with my first born (now 12) and with my last baby (2 months) and they were a life saver. I only used them untill I could feel the let down, and then I would take it off, because he did'nt have to work so hard to get the milk then. but as soon as I could stand it, I only used it for every other feeding, and then less and less, untill I had healed, and didn't need it anymore. We're nursing great now. http://www.geocities.com/douglass_22193 Micki,Nipple shields can be a bfing saver but I suggest that women only use themif they are consulting with a Lactation Consultant as some babies willcompletely refuse the breast after using them and it can be difficult towean off them.Wendihttp://www.lactivist.combreastfeeding info & resources

Guest guest
Thanks Wendi, I live in Slidell Louisiana. We're off to see our LC (lactation consultant) tomorrow. She's been the one to help us since the beginning problems when Abby wouldnt nurse at all. I have attended LLL meetings since she was born (grant it, its only 2 meetings) but I really didnt find the leaders helpful. I mean they can answer questions, but they arent really about getting down to the nitty gritty. Are you a LLL leader? I wonder only because I've wondered why at the LLL meetings they dont always do open format? I have talked to many other women who have also attended and we all agree that the end of the meetings are more useful than those silly " communication " games that are played. Guest guest
There is a subject/topic that is discussed and games are played to engage the answers. For example the topic of the first meeting was " communication " and there was a sign on the board with two colums. You had to match one colum to the other. Further example of this is the word breastfeeding...which had to be matched to LLL. IE, who would you communicate with to find out about breastfeeding? I got most of them wrong...I think I said I would communicate with my Lactation Consultant (for help) and my husband (for support). It just seemed silly to me being that most of the people that are there are having some sort of problem that needs to be addressed. By the time the " communication " part is over and people get to ask questions it usually ends up being a 2 hour meeting. I am not saying they are bad...I just dont find the first hour useful at all...but the question and answer period is good. > << we all agree that the > end of the meetings are more useful than those silly " communication " > games that are played.
