Guest guest
My oldest wanted to try it and at first I offered a bit of expressed milk in a cup. She did not like the taste of it so that ended that! :-) And congrats on seeking support before you give birth. When babe is here and you start having problems, you should have some resources lined up to turn to. Have you looked into local LLL groups for some hands on help should you need it? Jenn -----Original Message----- From: Nicki Scarborough [sMTP:hunts_mom_1@...] I plan on breastfeeding him for as long as he wants considering this will be my last and I want to make up for the time lost with my first son.I am sure I will have lots of questions so please bare with me through them all. I cant wait for my new baby. In the mean time feel free to ask me anything and I will be reading all the emails, learning and growing and getting ready for the road that awaits me and my children. One question that I already have is, how do you think my 2 year old will react to his bother breastfeeding? Will he want to do it also and what are your experiences with this and what have you done? Guest guest
Hi Nicki, My son will be 2 next Friday and i have a 4 mo old daughter. I n ursed my son up til he was 15 or 16 mo and I was scared he was going to want to nurse again once the new baby came, BUT he hasn't even acted like he remembers that he used to do it....never even asks. Hope yours doesn't either. I wouldn't have minded him nursing but my husband didn't want us to have a kid that could talk still breastfeeding (especially since he can have all real foods now and milk. And we comfort him in other ways (cuddling, kissing, hugging, reading to him, etc) If he does act like he wants some ...one of my friends said she would give her oldest a cup of breastmilk and tell him he had to sit in a certain chair to drink it...he decided he didn't really want it ) Blessings,Mindy

Guest guest
I had a 2 year old and a newborn twice (older children are 13, 11, 8 and 6, plus we have a 10 day old baby) and never had any problems with jealousy or the toddler wanting to nurse. I've read that if you let them they may try it but decide it's for the baby. My mom didn't breastfeed us, my brother and I are only a year apart, and while she was feeding him his bottle she'd snuggle me next to her with something of my own to drink and that did the trick. Guest guest
My daughter was 19 months old when my second child was born. She had weaned herself at a year so I thought she might want to nurse again when she saw the baby nursing. But she never asked to although she was very curious about what was going on. I explained to her that her baby sister got her milk from mama but since she was a little girl she could drink from a cup. She soon started coming to me with her cup and saying that she wanted to be a baby. She would then lay in my lap and drink from her cup. She just needed some mama time too. Congratulations on your soon to be new son! And you've made a great decision to breastfeed! I am just wondering what would be wrong with nursing them both? It's ok to, and I wish I could have with my girls...but nursing during pregnancy was very painful for me....I did it for the first few months then had to stop. I was so dissappointed that I wasn't able to tandem nurse...my little girl is 22 months and my baby girl is 7 weeks. Also...it's to bad that your husband feels that way about nursing a toddler....I plan to nurse Emma for a couple of years...I nursed Kelsey for 14 months. I hope he is supportive to you...could you tell him more about nursing a toddler, there is a lot of info about it. Good luck...and I look forward to your response. Guest guest
This question--weaned toddler asking to nurse again--came up at a recent BF support group here locally. The mother's 2.5 year old was asking to nurse since the baby was born 2.5 months ago. I gave her my ped's advice--By allowing the child to try nursing you will demystify the act of nursing. I saw that mom again today, and she said that the last time her toddler asked she said, "yes." Her toddler didn't know what to do anymore, she weaned at age 15 months, so just sat there with her mouth open for a minute with the nipple in it. The toddler has not asked again. You might consider this response if your toddler asks to nurse after the baby comes, Nicki. Amy Lynnmother to 1-25-98 and 2-10-00 whose DS never has asked to nurse and weaned at 21 months.
