Diet success story...

Last night on the news there was this story of a woman who had weighed almost

400 pounds then went on Weight Watchers and lost all the excess weight. The

news people were all smiling and happy and the woman in question is like a Zumba

teacher or something and was shown jumping up and down in a classroom where she

teaches kindergarten.

Kids from earlier classes were asked about her before and after and they all

said that they never noticed her former weight, that she was always a really

good teacher. I was like " really? " How, in a fat-hating society did these kids

not notice that their teacher was very, very overweight?! And why was she and

her entire class jumping up and down throughout the whole interview?

And who in the world could count points every single day for, what was it, two

or three years?!

I was never able to stay with a diet plan where I had only a few points,

calories or fat grams leeway. I always did best on diet no-brainers;

eliminating all grains, all carbs, all fat or just plain eliminating food. But

to obsessively count every bite, every snack, every meal - for years?!

I'm not actually sure what was so unsettling about the program - but maybe it

was tied to me finding the packet of books and counters I bought at my last

forray into WW which was just about this time last year. I dunno. Or maybe it

was just another message about how I don't have enough discipline and if I did

I'd be jumping up and down and would become a Zumba teacher too.

Of course the bit did finish with " Now she says that her goal is to keep the

weight off " . I guess that's the real bottom line of that story.

Well, this is just me griping about all this diet stuff on television,

especially the " news " .
