Guest guest
i am also very often not hungry when i wake up, even if i didnt eat late the night before... in those cases i do not eat. i dont know if thats the correct thing, but i am persoanlly trying to eat only when real hunger is present. dr michelle may wrote in her book (eat what you love...) that because breakfast is so important, try to make yourself hungry in the morning, like try to arrange your hunger schedule, i take that to mean not eating dinner late and not having late night snacks, so you will be hungry in morning. i dont know how possible this all is, but something to think about To: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Tuesday, January 17, 2012 10:33 PMSubject: Is breakfast still the most important meal of the day? Guest guest
When do you usually get hungry? If you skip breakfast do you have a chance to eat when you do get hungry? I think the danger is that if you don't eat breakfast and then you just get really busy with work or kids or whatever and don't eat when you do get hungry then you may end up overeating at the end of the day. I would just keep track for a few days and listen to your hunger. If you are able to skip breakfast and not overeat later in the day then maybe that is what works for you. I'm no expert...that's just my two cents!!Aubrey To: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Tuesday, January 17, 2012 8:33 PM Subject: Is breakfast still the most important meal of the day? Guest guest
This topic has been raised many times in this group. The 'answers' range greatly so you may want to Search the back posts to see what others have said (pro and con). I know I have a morning ritual which helps me start my day. It almost always includes coffee and some little thing to eat. But some days I want a substantial breakfast not long after and other days I don't want to eat until more mid day. Eventually you will be better at 'tuning into' your own signals and able to leave EXternal dictates behind. I suggest that you simply PLAY with it for yourself :-) Don't eat and see what happens, eat a 'good' breakfast and observe how that effects you. You will get it ;-) Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I'm find that if I've had a good tea I'm naturally not that hungry when I get up. Diet mentality tells me I should eat breakfast - but should I? Guest guest
I don't eat until I'm hungry. My mother has been naturally thin her entire life, and she skipped breakfast all the time until she had to eat it to take meds, now she only eats a piece of toast with butter, and a cup of coffee. she brings crackers for lunch with an apple, and eats a small dinner. She has a small appetite, so of course adjust portions as needed, but my main point is she doesn't eat much in the mornings. I think the always eat breakfast thing has actually hurt me. I tended to eat it whether I wanted it or not, and it was usually not. I also began to eat dinner items for breakfast which I like better, not a fan of breakfast foods. Guest guest
My 2 cents....if your hungry...then eat breakfast, if you aren't hungry, then wait until you are. To me, breakfast being the most important meal of the day thing is just another "rule" that society has made about eating...it ranks up there with eating protein at every meal, eat this many fruits/veggies per day etc. If I'm not in the mood to eat breakfast because I'm not hungry then I'm not going to eat because then it would be considered overeating and that's what makes us overweight. Sorry for the rant but I just got done rereading the Overfed Head and it has really clicked this time! Guest guest
To put it into perspective: Breakfast comes from " break fast " , i.e. you are breaking your fast after your nighttime sleep. It is the most important meal of the day, because it gets you going (so to speak). But that doesn't mean you have to eat it at a particular time. Sometimes my breakfast is at 6 in the morning. Sometimes it is at 10, only after I have been working for a while. Occasionally my lunch is my breakfast. There is no rule as to when you eat breakfast. Your breakfast is when you first eat after waking up, no matter what time it is.

Guest guest
I'd experiment. That's what what I did at first and determined I really do feel better when I eat breakfast even if I'm not very hungry. I just need something to get my motor going. And I've learned it doesn't have to be very much food at all, sometimes just a couple bites of something.
