Guest guest
Thank you to everyone who has offered support and concern for me. I would like to first start and say that I do not have an eating disorder, my therapist knows about this behavior. I think what makes this NOT an eating disorder is that i do not feel like i have to do this but rather it was just something that i do when i started IE and was more concerned with whether this fit into the iE mentality. I do not do this often, it is just something that i have done a couple of times since starting IE as a way to honor what i wanted but not feel sick. It had nothing to do with weight gain. Fortunately, i am extremely active and have never had too much of a problem with weight. I have gained 5-10 pounds here and there but I am 140 at 5 '7'' and am very comfortable with my body. Again, i appreciate all of the concern. i do agree that others might take it personally or be intimidated by people posting that they have an eating disorder. I am very active with my therapist and know my behaviors are not normal but also are not out of control. i had a quick spell with anorexia for about a year when i was 15 so i know that i am prone to eating disorders. Again, thank you for all of the concern, but please be careful of labeling people with eating disorders because you may not always know the context. When i chew and spit it is not to excess, it is more maybe 5 bites after honoring my hunger and eating what i want. It was just when i wanted more than my hunger would allow. i agree that this is not a normal eating behavior but i was more posting to wonder about rules. for instance, should i make a rule that i cannot chew and spit 5 extra bites after i am full? I can understand how that would be a cause for concern and i appreciate everyones help!
Guest guest
As I'm reading the responses, isn't chewing gum similar to chewing and spitting? I understand there is a slight difference, but come on, folks, for a few bites, who is to say what is normal behavior? I hate to say this, but probably more nutrients can be gleaned from "chewing and spitting" food than can be from chewing gum. There was an episode in "Everybody Loves " where either he or , or both of them (I forget), would have to touch his chin before eating something. Odd? Yes. But so what? Would I want to live with someone who did that on a regular basis? I don't know ... one's good habits, or traits, should outweigh the odd ones.TaiTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Saturday, June 25, 2011 11:26 AMSubject: Re: chewing and spitting chewing and spitting can be as bad as a binge or as bad as provoking vomit or any other cumplusive behavior. When do we see it as good instead of bad? I would say for me, it is ok to chew and spit if I had already eaten to meet fullness level and as I chew, I realize that I dont need it anymore. or if i taste something that is just not good so as it is not satisfying my taste, I choose not too eat it. Other than that, chewing and spitting just to take the taste of something, is as bad as other bad eating behaviors. As for me, I have been chewing and spitting a lot lately for ONE reason: 7th month of pregnancy almost ending and I feel full very easily and I am having a hard time knowing what is it that I really want to eat. So I taste something, realize that it is not what i wanted and out Recent Activity: New Members 10 Visit Your Group Switch to: Text-Only, Daily Digest • Unsubscribe • Terms of Use .
