Pam, Hi this is Deana! I also live near sacramento. I live off the 99

freeway in a town called Galt. Have you heard of it? If you do not mind

where are you at? Maybe we could join a support group together. I am

off work and have been since october of last year. I was diagnosed in

July of 1997 and work full time and lots of overtime up until last year.

I am in constant pain. And have had a flare up now going on close to 2

months with migraines and all. I know it has gotten worse and I feel

like it will continue. I am on ltd from work and am thinking of applying

for ssi but it sounds so final. I loved my job. I was an nicu nurse at

sutter memorial for 13 years and I want to go back but it does not look

good. Well enough about me. good luck and write me if you want. I do

not get out too much because I just do not feel good half the time.

Deanna,

You probably took care of our youngest son then. Both of our kids were

preemie, and in NICU, our oldest is 16, but our youngest is 8. He was born

2 months early, but shortly after he was born (we were still in the

operating room when this happened), the crew of NICU nurses kind of started

laughing. I hadn't seen him yet, and couldn't figure out what was so funny.

I asked the nurses if my son had two heads or what, and they said, " Oh no,

he's the biggest preemie we've had in almost 2 months! " So, for being 2

months early, that wasn't too bad! He did end up staying several weeks,

just to get his lung function up mostly, but he's one very healthy dude, so

my many thanks to the staff there, as well as for our oldest son!

Yes, I'd like to get together if we can. My biggest problem can be time.

Everybody wants to see us, and I have to take it relatively easy, but email

me privately, and we can work something out, I'm sure!

.. I loved my job. I was an nicu nurse at

sutter memorial for 13 years and I want to go back but it does not look

good.

Hello to Everyone!

My name is KaDe King and I live in Norwalk, CA (Southern California

between Los Angeles and Disneyland). I am 33 years old and my hubby

is 34. We have been married for 5 1/2 years and don't have any

children together. He has 2 boys (13 & 12) from his first marriage and

I have 2 boys (10 & 8) from my first marriage.

I had an Open RNY on 4/18/00. I went from 276 to 166. I gained back a

couple of pounds. But I have been stable at 172-173 for the last 9

months. I am pretty happy & comfortable at this weight (size 12).

We found out about 8 weeks ago that I am pregnant! It was definitely

a surprise. We had decided to try to conceive in the fall, but oops!

Anyway, I am 12 1/2 weeks along and my EDD is 1/20/03. We really hope

this is a girl, because between the two of us we already have 4 boys.

I am planning on reading the archives, but does anyone have any

advice on vitamins? Neither my WLS surgeon or my OB have any idea of

what levels of vitamins I should be taking.

Before pregnancy I was taking the following:

Centrum multi-vitamin with Lutein & 400 mcg of Folate

Slow FE Iron supplement 50 mg

Calcium Citrate supplement

Sub-Lingual B-12 (couple of times a week)

I would think that with the baby I would need to add to that. But the

OB doesn't know because he just hasn't had many patients with WLS. I

may be his first, who knows! He prescribed an outrageously expensive

prenatal, that I purchased 30 days worth ($21.87). But I looked at an

over the counter prenatal and found an equivalent that is only $5 for

$100 days worth. It has pretty much the same thing as the one the OB

prescribed. BUT, the prenatals seem to have less vitamins/minerals

than what I have already been taking before PG.

Has anyone gotten any advice from their WLS dr. or an OB experienced

with WLS patients?

I know that I need more Folate - my OB said 1 mg (1000 mcg) a day.

But I can buy Folate for $2. If anyone has any ideas, please respond.

I am excited about belonging to this group!
