Hello! I am also 17 years old (but from the US) and i am going into

college in the fall. I had an underbite but not several gaps in the

teeth. I DID have braces (and still do) for several

years...um..since 3rd grade, got them off in 6th, got them put back

on in 9th and have had them ever since. I would definitely go with

the braces though.

I totally know how you feel about having your jaws grow and having to

wait and wait and wait. Every year (since the 7th grade) they [the

doctors] kept telling me " Next Summer " i would have the surgery

done...it really aggravated me and caused me to become really

emotional sometimes. When they finally told me that i would

definitely be getting the surgery done though, i was estatic.

I am in my 11th day post op and couldnt be doing better (atleast i

hope). Im glad that they waited so long because i don't seem to be

having any problems whatsoever. If i had gotten the surgery done

earlier than i did...then i might have complications with shifting

and whatnot.

It'll all be worth it later!

No, luckily i did not have to have my teeth or jaws wired together

after the operation. I was only stitched and screwed (:P) However i

did have to have a liquid diet for the first week and a half. Right

now i am at 12 days post op and i am doing mushy stuff. Um, mashed

potatoes scrambled eggs soup...The only part that was a pain in the

butt was the drinking problem. I would have to drink out of a

styrofoam cup (because it was bendable and stuff) with a paper towel

below my mouth to catch the drippage.

And don't worry about all of the questions. ALL of us here have

asked a lot of questions. I know that i still ask tons of questions

so don't feel bad. I'm glad that i can help.

  • 8 years later...

Hello everyone! It's so refreshing to see a community of people helping and

encouraging one another and I have very much enjoyed reading the messages on

this site.

I have been practicing IE for 2 months now. After years of depriving myself my

mind and body had finally had enough and things needed to change. I read Jean

Fain's " The Self-Compassionate Diet " and Albers " Eat, Drink, and be

Mindful " .

For me the most difficult part of this philosophy is knowing when to stop

eating. The dieting part of my mind tells me I am no longer hungry after a

glass of water while the binging side of my personality tells me to keep going

until it's difficult to move.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I recommend Bacon's book Health At Every Size. She talks about how some

foods do not register in our body the same way causing peopole to still feel

hungry and/or unsatisfied after eating a high calorie meal.
