Guest guest
Welcome Sue! I also have a sling with no padding, the Mayawrap, and I love it! Much more versatile and comfortable than my padded sling. Michele, mom of Arran 12-27-93, Keely 12-5-97 & Rowan 3-15-00! Thanks! http://www.alladvantage.com/go.asp?refid=GJX196 Hi, My name is Sue and I'm fairly new to the group, too, been mostly lurking for about month. I'm expecting my 5th in July, my other 4 were all breastfed, each a little longer than the one before. I breastfed anywhere we were and no one ever made any negative comments to me, I may have gotten 'looks' but didn't notice them as usually I'm so wrapped up in the baby when I nurse that I don't notice anyway. I nursed in malls, restaurants, church, even during the picture taking at my brother-in-laws wedding.A sling really helps with this, I plan to use mine right away so the baby is used to it. When in the sling, there is no way that anyone even knows you are feeding unless you have a noisy eater as it covers you and the baby right up. But you still have a wonderful view in if you enjoy those special looks with your baby while it nurses (and who among us doesn't!)I actually have 2 slings this time, one with the padding on the edges and one that doesn't have it, I found it on closeout on the web and ordered on a hunch and I think I may end up liking that one even more. It won't be nearly as bulky and can be folded flat so I can put it in the diaper bag whenever we go out in case it's needed! Thanks for letting me ramble, with my baby only a couple of months away, I'm getting so excited and can't wait to put it to my breast for the first time, there is nothing like it!Sue
Guest guest
Michele C. - I'm wondering if breastfeeding is more acceptable in Canadathan in the US? Most women I speak to in the U.S. say that they havereceived negative stares when BIP.~ M.Wife to DemetriosSAHMommy to Elijah (4/2/98) and (11/20/99) I have lived in Ontario, just north of Toronto and here in Edmonton and I've never gotton a rude comment or stare, even when Keely was 1 1/2 at a water park :-) I think the attitudes about bfing, pro and con are the same as in the US, we get the same advertisements for example, but Canadian's are more reserved, less confrontational in general, so you aren't as likely to get comments from total strangers, from your family, but not strangers lol I'm sure there are other mom's here who have gotten comments and starres, I just haven't experienced it myself (yet). I know a friend of mine said when she first moved to Edmonton (before I was here) that there was a woman who was told to leave a restaurant because she was bfing and there was a huge uproar about it and LLL members showed up and bf all their babies and toddlers at that restaurant all at the same time with the news media present lol Michele, mom of Arran 12-27-93, Keely 12-5-97 & Rowan 3-15-00! Guest guest
, Welcome to the list. Glad to have you! Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources Intro Hello Everyone, My name is Brauchli and I am a SAHM to my two DD's, Jordan age 15 and Charlotte 9 months. My DH is a Foreign Service officer, as was I in my former life ;-) We are currently living in Finland, but will be moving this summer to Vienna Austria. I am very happy to have found this list. I also belong to an Aug 99 Babies list that I enjoy very much. Living overseas away from friends, family and country can be a bit isolating and I look forward to meeting everyone here. I have been exclusively bfing Charlotte almost since she was born. Unfortunately, she was born 4 weeks early and developed jaundice. She was too weak from the jaundice and prematuraty to latch properly so I pumped and bottlefed her for about 2 weeks. After that we moved to exclusive bfing. Now the little darling won't even consider taking a bottle... screams like we are trying to kill her if we even offer it. I plan on bfing through the summer then we will see how it goes. I am in no hurry to wean and I figure with all the stress of the upcoming move I won't rock the boat any more than necessary. With my older daughter I bfed for about three months and then for a variety of reasons weaned and bottle/formula fed her. I was quite young when she was born and received no support. Funny how back in 1984 natural childbirth was the buzz and breastfeeding was not. Times change, thankfully! Look forward to " meeting " everyone. Guest guest
Welcome to the group ! Its great that you are going to nurse your new bundle of joy! And it does help to have a support group before you have the baby. Do you have LeLeche League in your area? If so you may want to contact them also with any questions you may have before and especially after you have your baby. I don't think I would have made it nursing my twins this long if it wasn't for them. My twin girls, and Mackenzie, are 1 year old and we are still nursing. I plan to until they decide to wean. I look forward to getting to know you and will be glad to help in any way that I can! Guest guest
Hi . =) I'm hoping for the exact same thing. I breastfed my son for the first two weeks of his life, and unfortunate curcumstances made me decide otherwise. (long story). I'm now 12 weeks PG with my second and determined to stick with it regardless of what the doctors say. This time I'll go see a Lactation consultant first before deciding anything.
