Guest guest
Blithe, Welcome back. I remember when you were on the list before. Glad to hear your nursing relationship is going great. My daughter (Kaija 8 1/2) weaned when she was 13 months because of bottles. Zaid was on his way to that as well and we ditched the bottle completely. He is now 2 1/2 and going strong. Guest guest
, Feeding on cue is the optimal way to feed a healthy breastfed baby. Let her tummy decide when feedings are done and when another should occur is the best way to assure that she will have a lifetime of healthy food habits. Most breastfed babies are really chubby in the first six months and then they thin down from there on when they become mobile. Obviously every baby is different but for the most part they pack it on in the first six months and then use it up when they become mobile. Sounds like a happy, healthy and very lucky baby to be able to nurse when she wants to! Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding resources and info intro Hello! I'm new to this list - just read my first digest and love it already! Wish I had known this was here a year ago! I'm 27 and mom to one (so far!) - my daughter, , is almost 11 months old. I adore her and was ready to try to get pregnant again not long after she was born but thought I had to wait until she was weaned - how nice to know that's not true! I recently opened a little baby store - the web address is in my sig line and the gorgeous little girl on the page is ) and I go to the shop together each day and I'm so happy to be able to spend so much time with her. Here's my first question (of many, I'm sure!) - is a big girl - slightly below average height but chubby since birth, though she's thinning out now that she crawls everywhere. I've been told that this is due to allowing her to nurse as much as she wants since birth. For future reference - should I have not done that?? For the first week or so I'd fall asleep everytime she'd nurse (at the hospital the morning nurse would come in a laugh at us because we'd be asleep in the rocker together with still latched on) so I wasn't making her stop then. Then, at home, dh would find us snoozing like that. But even after that passed I let her tummy tell her when she was done. Bad idea? (BTW, the doctor told me that the sleeping was just due to the relaxing hormones released when nursing. I had horrible insomnia the first few days after my C-section and only slept when I nursed.) I'm so glad this list is here! Guest guest
Elena, You are so right about this. Breastfeeding is supply and demand. The less demand at the breast, the less supply will be produced. Nursing a baby on cue is the best way to establish and keep a great supply. Guest guest
Hi, , Welcome to our corner of cyberspace. I have been off-mail for most of the last week since our modem blew up, so I am late responding. I am absolutely thrilled to hear that goes to work with you--you must have made that a priority in starting your business. In addition, IMNSHO, you did exactly the right thing in letting nurse as much as she wants since birth, since a baby *will* NOT over eat, and you are setting her up with good eating habits for the future when she needs to know how much she needs. But even after> that passed I let her tummy tell her when she was > done. Bad idea? Best idea!!! Congratulations as you near the one year mark with nursing! Guest guest
Don't know if I said this before (others said the same as you) but this is so good to hear! There are 4 docs in the practice we take to and 2 said we were fine and the other two said I was setting her up with bad habits - not so helpful! That's part of why I'm looking into getting more active as far as becoming an LC or doing whatever I can - we got so many differing opinions and we were so confused! Some days I feel like an old pro...and other days bites me ) As far as going to the store with me everyday - you're right, it's a priority for us. We're scraping by at the moment (the store has only been open for about 6 weeks so it's not helping in this aspect!) but we've never been happier! > you did exactly the right thing in letting > nurse as much as she wants > since birth, since a baby *will* NOT over eat, and > you are setting her up > with good eating habits for the future when she > needs to know how much she > needs. > > But even after> that passed I let her tummy tell her > when she was > > done. Guest guest
, I believe that to become a certified lc you have to be a nurse. (All the lc I know have been nurses who did their continuing education in lactation consulting and then went on to get their certifications.)
