My name is Penny, 37, married, 11 year old daughter, live in Vermont. I have not always been overweight, however after my daughter was born, I just continually went up and up and up!! My highest weight was 250lbs and at 5'2 " it was not a pretty sight!! I managed to get down to 215, and held there for quite a while. I am now ready to lose the rest! I started following the WW plan at home about 3 weeks ago and at my last weighin on Monday I was at 207lbs. I'd love to lose the rest of these 77lbs and get to my goal of 130lbs. I have been following the posts and this seems to be an awesome group...looking forward to meeting everyone... Penny ~There are no strangers here... Guest guest
Good evening, My name is Sara and I am 32 years old. I have been a binge eater and chronic dieter for 20 years. I have read a few books by Geneen Roth and agree with the concept. I want to try this approach but don't know where to start...do I journal what I eat? Rate my hunger? Measure food? Etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much, Sara from OH
Guest guest
Welcome Sara. I too first became aware of non-dieting from the books of Geenen Roth. Much as I liked what I read from her, I couldn't apply 'her' methods to incorporate this valuable change in my life. It wasn't until I found this group and read some other un-dieting books that I was able to change over to this concept and practices. There is a Book List in the Files section at the group (Yahoo) site. This group mainly is based upon the Intuitive Eating book, but I also very much liked Overcoming Overeating when I first began here. Just noticing is a good place to start from. It may be helpful for you to read a few days back in the posts at the group site to see if anything clicks with you there. From there its simply finding one thing to observe and experiment with in the way of suggestions (principles) and you will find that you are on your IE journey :-) Be as gentle with yourself as possible and see if you can make this experience fun too! Guest guest
I started with the IE book by Tribloe and Elyse Resch. I found it very helpful. This group is great too. I'll throw out a few of the past comments I can recall. Remember this is a journey. Small steps. maybe choose one thing to do at a time, which ever is best for you. Like eating when you are hungry and stopping when you are full, or legalizing food(no forbidden). If you go through the IE book you can find what works for you to start with. Many of us have found that trying to do it all at once just doesn't work. Keep writing in. There are lots of references too for other books although I found it better for me to stick with the IE for a while.
