Hello:

My son's pediatrician recommended B12 for my 5 years old with injections. Does anyone knows a good B12 that I can give him by mouth? The same as vitamin C, which one is best for him?

You need to ask the Dr. why he recommends injections(vs. oral) I know injections are more effective/reliable because they go directly into the blood stream(My son gets daily hormone injections)

I have been getting B-12 injections, for many years because I have Celiac and one of the problems from it is "malabsorption". My body does not absorb certain vitamins/minerals. On the one hand, I can take Iron, in pills, and my red blood count remains stable but I cannot maintain my white blood count, stable, with B-12 capsules. I started with weekly injections and am now on monthly. As an aside, I get them on my "backside", not on my arm, because when I tried, on my arm, my arm was sore the rest of the day. I have also been warned that B-12 injections can have you gain weight, which did not happen to me, thank g-d.

Good Luck!

Go with injections. Though there are mb12 lollipops and chewables. Should be methlycobalin form. Good for your mainstream pediatrician to address this!Sent from my iPhone

Sometimes with Vitamin B 12 there is an absorption issue. Some

people lack a substance that allows for the absorption of this vitamin. In

those cases only the shots will do.

Some of the info on this string needs clarification. Sublingual forms

are the same as injection. They are not the same as a B12 you swallow.

Sub lingual forms dissolve under the tongue (the lingua) and *do not*

rely on how your stomach is--if you swallow B12 it requires a

substance called intrinsic factor that the stomach makes to absorb,

but the sublingual form bypasses that and is absorbed directly into

the bloodstream (and bypasses the liver's degradation).

The only advantage shots have is that you can get a higher dose at one

time. However, that is counterbalanced by the fact that sublingual is

easier to give repeatedly, and hurt less. Most often, injections are

once a month, but you can take the sublingual daily if you need.

There even used to be an intranasal spray.

I do agree with going for the methylcobalamin form rather than the

cyanocobalamin form. Good health food stores will be more likely to

carry the sublingual methyl form, or some place like Kirkman labs will

carry it mail order.

Oops. I got confused with injections and sublingual. My son receives

his mb12 shots every other night. When we started, it was every 4th

day. Not really painful. Attitude of parent helps.

New Beginnings Nutritionals has the nasal b12 spray. I think you need to ask for the spray attachment for the bottle

Subject: B12To: mb12 valtrex Date: Wednesday, March 9, 2011, 9:16 AM

Can someone tell me where to order the nasal b12? My son can't do suckers, we have to feed him and I don't want to do shots again.I had some b12 years ago but can't remember where and can't seem to find it in the files. Also, should I just start this right away? Today will be my sons first day on nizoral. I plan on waiting a week to start the valtrex since he has been on gaps for over a year and eating healthy for many years before that, including no grains or fruit. Thanks a bunch!jo

jo,

We have used the shots, the suckers, the nasal spray and now we use b12mouth

spray . I get it from vitacost. Its by pure advantage and costs about $12.00 a

bottle. No script needed and it works almost as good as the shots and the nasal

but it doesnt last as long so I do it twice a day. My son likes the taste and I

love that we dont need to spend hundreds of dollars going back to the DAN for a

script for something she already prescribed. Its very easy. You give one or two

sprays right into the mouth. Thats it! I rub magnesium oil on my son when we do

the spray and it seems to keep him from getting anxious. The two things together

work really well. To make the oil, I disolve about two tbsp. epsom salts in a

small bit of water and add about a cup of coconut oil. I keep it in a plastic

bottle. The coconut oil will harden when its cool in the house so I warm it up

like you would a baby bottle and rub some on his back.

Thanks,

Alice

Thanks Alice, he is so sensitive and has seizures as a reaction that I doubt he

could do the spray. Does the b12 wire them a little? Is that why you mentioned

the magnesium?
