Sharon how awful. What a mess. Tell your son to be VERY careful with the septic tank fumes. They can kill you. Prayers that all goes well.

Yep, our sewer lines are frozen and so is the septic tank. The ground is frozen and can't be dug up. The people we bought this place from apparently didn't bury the pipes the way they were supposed to and just covered the pipes with enough dirt for the pipes not to show. The septic tank also was not buried deep like it was supposed to be. So we not only have plugged pipes, they are frozen plugged pipes, that split from freezing.... that lead to a frozen septic tank. My son has gone to the big town about 50 miles away to buy replacement pipes. My son's jackhammer is not working and the ground is too frozen to just dig. He has hauled buckets of hot water out to pour on the ground today. Finally he was able to dig up the broken pipe section. A neighbor has a jackhammer he will loan to my son tomorrow so he can dig up the rest of the pipe....Snow forecast for tonight but it doesn't look like we will be socked in with snow. We are hoping for decent septic-pipe-digging-weather tomorrow!

Well, it worked great for a good fifty years.... :-) Til finally the

metal " returned to the earth " !

This was the original homestead from 1886 (before statehood) so

I'm surprised it wasn't something weirder.... We have an outhouse (without

hole) in the pasture made entirely of old doors.

Apparently we were LUCKY to have an old fuel tank - the first choice

of so-it-yourself septic makers around here was old car bodies!!! :-)

21 degrees today - time to get out the shorts!!!

Around here it isn't unusual to find 55 gallon drums used as a septic.  So

your Texaco fuel tank is pretty fancy in comparison:)

21 degrees today - time to get out the shorts!!!

frozen sewer, plugged pipes...

Yep, our sewer lines are frozen and so is the septic tank.  The ground is

frozen and can't be dug up.  The people we bought this place from apparently

didn't bury the pipes the way they were supposed to and just covered the

pipes with enough dirt for the pipes not to show.  The septic tank also was

not buried deep like it was supposed to be.  So we not only have plugged

pipes, they are frozen plugged pipes, that split from freezing.... that lead

to a frozen septic tank.  My son has gone to the big town about 50 miles

away to buy replacement pipes.  My son's jackhammer is not working and the

ground is too frozen to just dig.  He has hauled buckets of hot water out to

pour on the ground today.  Finally he was able to dig up the broken pipe

section.  A neighbor has a jackhammer he will loan to my son tomorrow so he

can dig up the rest of the pipe....

Snow forecast for tonight but it doesn't look like we will be socked in with

snow.  We are hoping for decent septic-pipe-digging-weather tomorrow!
